ADAC GT Masters·2.12.2015

Asch and Ludwig: From SLS AMG to C63 AMG: Sebastian Asch and Luca Ludwig swapped the cockpit of their SLS AMG GT3

An historic moment in testing at Jerez de la Frontera: on Monday 30th November, 2015 ADAC GT Masters champions Sebastian Asch and Luca Ludwig got their first chance to test a DTM car at the track in southern Spain. This was a reward for their achievements on the AMG Customer Sports Programme. The test took place in the presence of their famous fathers, Roland Asch and Klaus Ludwig, who drove for Mercedes-Benz in the DTM during the nineties. Ludwig won two of his three DTM titles for the three-pointed star in 1992 and 1994. In Jerez, both fathers returned to the cockpit of a DTM car for a few laps.

Sebastian Asch:

"First of all, I would like to thank Mercedes-AMG for being able to test their DTM car. It's just amazing how good it is in the corners. In the cockpit, I could not stop grinning . It's amazing how responsive the car is and how late you can brake. However, getting used to the high level of downforce takes a bit of time. The test put me in a really happy frame of mind. It gave me a really nice motivation boost, being able to post a few laps in the DTM championship-winning car.."

Luca Ludwig:

"I got my first chance to drive a DTM car in Jerez. It was a tremendous honour and a pleasure for me. It also brought back memories of my youth, when I spent a lot of time with my father in the Mercedes-Benz DTM family. And so, it was a very emotional moment when I climbed into a DTM car for the first time. I got along well from the beginning, but it's completely different compared to a GT racer. You just need a bit of time to settle in before you can drive on the limit. Still, I felt I knew in the end where to find the car's limit. Overall, I'm extremely happy with today."

Roland Asch:

"I found this test with my son absolutely brilliant. 1994 was the last time that I drove the AMG Mercedes C-Class in the DTM. I've followed the DTM ever since, but this is the first time that I've been out in a current DTM car. It was absolutely mega and lots of fun. Now I know exactly what drivers have to do these days. It's not easy to get everything out of the car, especially when you're on the limit. It's amazing, all the things that guys like Sebastian can do in such a car."

Klaus Ludwig:

"That was a great experience. I got an idea on my laps of just what it feels like to drive a modern DTM car. You have to take your hat off to the guys who can take this vehicle to the limit, for sure. You need a lot of practice and bags of talent to drive a current DTM car on the limit, like the guys do nowadays. Respect!"
