The Audi teams got away to a speedy start this race Sunday in Zandvoort with three R8 LMS ultras in front in the warm-up for the third-last ADAC GT Masters race of the 2015 season. Andreas Weishaupt and Christer Jöns (C.Abt Racing), who won the Gentlemen class on Saturday, took best time from fellow Audi drivers Daniel Dobitsch/Edward Sandström (kfzteile24 MS RACING) and Jordan Lee Pepper/Nicki Thiim (C.Abt Racing).
Under cloudy skies and with temperatures around 15 degrees, championship leaders Luca Ludwig and Sebastian Asch were also quick. They posted the fourth-fastest time in the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 (Team Zakspeed), finishing ahead of the BMW pairing of Claudia Hürtgen & Uwe Alzen (BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert). Ludwig and Asch achieved the first match point in the title fight on Sunday. The Mercedes-Benz drivers are 48 points up on rivals Klaus Bachler in the Porsche 911 GT3 R (GW IT Racing Team Schütz Motorsport) with three races to go before the end of the season. If the two sons of racing drivers can increase their lead by another three points on Sunday, then they will be in an unassailable position. However, the championship leaders will also have to watch Dominik Baumann and Jens Klingmann, who start on pole on Sunday. In order to keep their theoretical title chances alive until the finale at Hockenheim, the BMW drivers will have to take six points out of Ludwig and Asch on Sunday.
The #69 Callaway Competition Corvette Z06.R GT3 of Diego Alessi and Patrick Assenheimer will not start this Sunday. Callaway have withdrawn the Corvette from Race 2 after Alessi crashed out in Race 1.
