Audi, Nissan and Mercedes-Benz on top: Close scrap for the lead in Oschersleben

Audi, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz and Bentley - four marques bunched at the head of the pack in a closely-fought second practice session at the ADAC GT Masters season opener in the etropolis Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. The two new newcomers in the field continued to make a strong impression. Nissan were again in the top group, as they had been during the morning and were then joined by the Bentley Continental GT3 in the second session at noon. However, best time went to Audi. Andreas Weishaupt and Christer Jöns in the Audi R8 LMS ultra (C Abt Racing) were fastest, 0.062 seconds up on the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 of Marc Gassner and Florian Strauss. As temperatures reached 22 degrees in the heat of the midday sun, the best time posted by the Audi pair was about half a second slower than the Nissan fastest time set during first practice in the morning. The front-runners were tightly bunched, and just half a second covered the seven fastest cars.

Hari Proczyk and Andreas Simonsen (HP Racing), who brought home the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 in third place ahead of the two Bentley Continental GT3s (Bentley Team HTP) driven by Luca Stolz/Jeroen Bleekemolen and Fabian Hamprecht/Clemens Schmid were also quick in the second session.

Dominik Baumann and Jens Klingmann (BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert) were seventh in the BMW Z4 GT3, finishing behind the Audi R8 LMS ultra of Jordan Lee Pepper and Nicki Thiim (C Abt Racing). Their BMW was the fifth different make of car to claim a place in the top seven.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG of Luca Ludwig and Sebastian Asch (Team Zakspeed), the second BMW fielded by local team BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert with Claudia Hürtgen and Jesse Krohn and the Corvette of Andreas Wirth/Daniel Keilwitz (Callaway Competition) completed the Top Ten.
