Gentlemen class win for Jöst and Scholze: Nissan take two wins in the Gentlemen category at Oschersleben

Dominic Jöst and Florian Scholze (MRS GT-Racing) achieved their first win of the season at the ADAC GT Masters season opener in Oschersleben, racing a Nissan GT-R. After the Nissan success for Marc Gassner in Race One, a GT-R NISMO GT3 also won in the Gentlemen class on Sunday. Remo Lips (RWT Racing) placed second in a Corvette ahead of Andreas Weishaupt (C.Abt Racing), who finished on the Gentlemen podium for the first time in the Audi R8 LMS ultra during his debut weekend in the ADAC GT Masters.

Once again on Sunday, the race in the Gentlemen category was full of twists and turns. Florian Strauss´s team-mate, Gentlemen driver Gassner, took over the lead in class for the Nissan after the start. While battling for position with BMW driver Klingmann, Strauss was then forced to drive through the grass at Hotel Corner, losing several positions as a result. His team-mate Scholze benefited from his misfortune, taking P1. He handed over the Nissan to Jöst in the lead.

Jöst then drove a flawless race in the second stint of the race, securing his second victory in the Gentlemen class along with Scholze. Aided by Sven Barth, Remo Lips finished second, after beating off competition from the Audi R8 driven by Weishaupt, who came home third.

Scholze: "I had a superb scrap with Diego Alessi, in which I ultimately had to back down so as not to risk anything. I then tried to go with the flow, which worked out OK. There was no danger from behind. All in all, it was a quiet race. Apart from Alessi, nobody overtook me, so I´m very satisfied."

"The race went well today," said a very content Dominic Jöst. "I took over in P11 and then drove the car to a P8 finish. The pace of the car was good, and I was able to keep up with the rest of the field. Throughout the whole of last season, we never once finished eighth in the general classification, so from that perspective, we are highly satisfied."

"That was not an easy race," said Corvette man Lips. "All the time, I had an Audi on my tail. But we had good tactics to deal with that. I never quite found my rhythm; otherwise I might have finished further forward."

Audi driver Weishaupt was very pleased to have secured his first podium finish in the ADAC GT Masters: "I´ve only been in motor racing for four years now, and for me, the ADAC GT Masters is a tough environment. I´ve been on a steep upward trend, and aim to compete with the top GT3 drivers. My race today was actually quite good considering that we had a small problem after the pit stop which cost us some time. Third place in the Gentlemen class is very good after yesterday´s difficult race. I still have a lot to learn, but I will certainly make some progress."

One driver who was very much out of luck today was Saturday´s winner Gassner. After infringing the rules on his pit stop, Gassner ignored a stop-and-go penalty and was then shown the black flag, disqualifying him from the race.
