Hot start to the fourth ADAC GT Masters race weekend at the Lausitzring. The very first free practice session brought a taste of what's to come at the hottest weekend of the year, as temperatures were already hitting the 30 degree mark at the Lausitzring when the first free practice session ended at 9:30 am. BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert coped best with the morning heat. The two BMW Z4 GT3s at the head of the field driven by Klingmann and Dominik Baumann were just 0.116 seconds up on Claudia Hürtgen/Uwe Alzen. It's not only the weather that's promising to be hot this weekend at the shortest track on the ADAC GT Masters calendar. A 'hot' weekend is in prospect, because a mere 0.75 seconds covered the supercars from all the seven different manufacturers in the first session.
The two BMWs were followed home by two Audis. Florian Stoll/Marc Basseng, who recently secured the first podium for the Audi fielded by kfzteile24 MS RACING at Spa, confirmed that they are on a strong upward trend by taking third place from another Audi R8 LMS driven by Jordan Lee Pepper/Nicki Thiim (C Abt Racing) with a deficit of just 0.136 seconds.
Championship leaders Sebastian Asch and Luca Ludwig, who led for a time in the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 (Team Zakspeed), finished fifth ahead of the Audi R8 LMS ultra of Stefan Wackerbauer/Kelvin van der Linde and Andreas Weishaupt/Christer Jöns (all C Abt Racing).
Marc Gassner and Florian Strauss brought home the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 (MRS GT-Racing) in eighth place ahead of Daniel Dobitsch and Edward Sandstrom in the Audi R8 LMS (kfzteile24 MS RACING) ultra. Martin Ragginger, and Klaus Bachler in the Porsche 911 GT3 R (GW IT Racing Team Schütz Motorsport) placed tenth.
