Remo Lips (Callaway Competition) in the Corvette Z06.R GT3 achieved his first win of the season in the third round of the ADAC GT Masters. He drove comfortably to victory in Austria along with Sven Barth to reduce their deficit in the rankings on Nissan duo Dominic Jöst and Florian Scholze (MRS GT-Racing), who retired with an electronics problem. Second place and his best result to date in the Gentlemen class went to Andreas Weishaupt, who lines up with Christer Jöns in the Audi R8 LMS ultra.
No one could find a way around Gentlemen driver Jöst in the first stint of the race. The Nissan GT-R driven by the 36-year-old was in the lead in the overall standings, followed by Lips and Jakub Knoll in the BMW Z4 GT3 (Senkyr Motorsport). Jöst handed the GT-R over to Scholze in the lead, but the Bavarian struggled to combat problems with electronics on his initial laps and had to bring the Nissan to a stop.
Lips team-mate Barth inherited the top spot and drove safely to a victory in class ahead of the Audi driven by Jöns. Knoll, though, did not manage to convert his race into a podium. Senkyr Motorsport brought Lennart Marioneck, who was at the wheel for the second stint of the race, into the pits too late to serve a penalty for a pit stop that was too short. The Z4 GT3 was then black-flagged out of the race.
Not only did Nissan pair Jöst/Scholze suffer bad luck, Marc Gassner fared no better in the second Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3. Gassner retired after a contact on the second lap.
Remo Lips was delighted with his sixth class win in the ADAC GT Masters: "I had a brilliant start and kept up with the others quite well. I overtook an Audi which was holding me up a bit and am now very satisfied with my first Gentlemen victory."
For Andreas Weishaupt, second place in the third race was his best result in the Gentlemen class: "My start was excellent. I overtook three opponents in one move, but there are things I've still got to learn in the scraps. Christer then did very well in the second stint. I'm pleased with second place, because the Red Bull Ring is definitely not suited to the Audi. Spa in 14 days will certainly be tough as well. My hopes are pinned on the Lausitzring in four weeks' time."
