Senkyr Motorsport from Brno, Czech Republic finished their first season in the prestigious ADAC GT Masters championship last weekend. The team of Robert Senkyr competed at Hockenheim with Lennart Marioneck and series newcomer Michael Joos.
During qualifying, small technical issue prevented both drivers from setting competitive lap times, which resulted in starting positions at the back of the grid. However in the first race the German duo was fast enough again to get tenth position overall and the historically first point in ADAC GT for Czech team. In Gentlemen category it was another podium, the seventh for the team in this season.
Sunday's race was held in the rainy conditions and Joos who get to the cockpit about in the middle of the race made a slight mistake and he went from the tenth place into the gravel.
"Our first season in ADAC GT Masters has finished. I think we did it with honor. It's a pity about the second race because we could have another top ten result. However its motorsport and we have to accept this situation. This year was a year of learning and it is quite early to judge the season now", team principal Robert Senkyr said. "I think that we had a good season as a rookies and we did not a shame to the Czech motorsport at all. We feel we learnt a lot and are on to the higher level now. Thanks to all of the drivers and team members."
What the drivers said:
Lennart Marioneck: "Race 2 was really difficult due to the rainy conditions. My start was ok. I was in the back and took no risk to crash. Also in the spray was very difficult to see something and there were also some crashes in front of me. Than we had a long safety car period during which I had problems with the gearbox electronics. I had to reset the car before I could drive again. I have lost some positions after the safety car period but we gained them back during fast pit stop. Then my team mate went to the gravel and it was end of the race for us. We didn't have good pace during the weekend, but we gained some positions and top ten finish because of the lot of crashes and weather conditions."
Michael Joos: "The race weekend was a good experience for me. There were some problems with the car in the qualifying, but we could fix it. Overall I'm satisfied with the first race, with second I'm not because of my mistake. At least I would like to thank a whole team. They made a very good job."
