ADAC GT Masters: Comments after the first race: Observations from the paddock after the fifth race of the season

Robert Renauer (Precote Herberth Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R), winner: "We work on the principle of 'If not now, then when?'. So we used new tyres at the start. Because I managed to stay ahead of my opponents, I was able to put in some fast laps. Meanwhile, the Corvette and BMW behind me were engaged in a private battle, which certainly worked to my advantage. The two safety car deployments in the second half of the race were unfavourable for us, but I had great confidence in Martin (Ragginger) that he wouldn't take any risks and would bring the car home safely."

Martin Ragginger (Precote Herberth Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R), winner: "Towards the end, it got tight again with the two safety car periods; I would obviously have preferred a bigger lead. I'm very happy about this victory. My thanks to the whole team. The pit stop worked great, and Robert put in a terrific first stint. Thanks to Porsche for a magnificent car, and thanks also to the Lausitzring where we always seem to do well."

Christian Engelhart (GRT Grasser Racing Team, Lamborghini Huracán GT3), P2: "Massive respect to my team-mate Rolf (Ineichen). He virtually presented the race to me on a silver platter at the start of the second stint. Great job! Towards the end, I was locked in a thrilling battle with the Porsche of Martin Ragginger for the race victory. If it had gone on a bit longer, I would have been in with a real chance. I darted out of his slipstream a couple of times and showed myself, but there wasn't enough in it."

Dominik Schwager (Callaway Competition, Corvette C7 GT3-R), P3: "Starting from second, our actual objective was the race win. We were by no means slow, but the Porsche out at the front was just too strong for us. Patrick (Assenheimer) posted some good lap times and handed over the car in second place. We had completed the driver changeover, and I was just about to drive off when our engineer held me back. Something about the timing for the minimum period which we have to spend in the pits wasn't right. And if in doubt, I obviously have to go by what he tells me. Unfortunately, that cost us five seconds and second place on the podium. I set some fast lap times, but it was no longer possible to progress up the field."

Jules Gounon (Callaway Competition, Corvette C7 GT3-R), P4 general classification, P2 Junior classification: "After qualifying I was a little disappointed with grid position eight. I was in the process of setting a super fast lap that would have secured pole position for us, but then the red flag came out to interrupt proceedings. Our objective then was to finish the race in one piece and score some points towards the championship. And we succeeded in that regard with fourth place."

Daniel Keilwitz (Callaway Competition, Corvette C7 GT3-R), P4: "Fourth place is definitely a good result, considering that we started from P8 and also had 30 kilos of success ballast from the Sachsenring on board. We can ditch the extra weight in Sunday's race and line up in third place - I think that a little more might be possible. That would then make our weekend just great."

Luca Stolz (GRT Grasser Racing Team, Lamborghini Huracán GT3), P5 general classification, P3 Junior classification: "Overall, a tough race for us. We started from fifth on the grid, intending to move up front, but then in the end, we had to keep an eye on the rear-view mirror. Fifth place is OK in the final analysis, but not quite the result that we'd hoped for."

Mirko Bortolotti (GRT Grasser Racing Team, Lamborghini Huracán GT3), P5: "The car is not yet quite where we'd like it to be. We've reached the maximum with P5. We still have a bit of work to do before the second race on Sunday. We're struggling a bit in the battle with the other marques. Generally speaking, I'm pleased to be back in the ADAC GT Masters. This is a great championship, and the Lausitzring setting is fantastic."
