ADAC GT Masters: Comments after the first race: Observations from the paddock after the ninth race of the season

David Jahn (KÜS TEAM75 Bernhard, Porsche 911 GT3-R), winner: "We stayed out one lap more than the leading Porsche ahead of the pit stops - that was the key to success. I really stepped on the gas and set a lap time that was of qualifying standard. The plan worked. Kévin (Estre) emerged onto the track side by side with the other Porsche and ultimately managed to get past. After a difficult start to the season in this new team, things are going really well at the moment. But this is really due the effort put in by everyone on the team. The guys work very hard and always think deeply about ways we can improve. I hope we can continue to ride this wave of success."

Kévin Estre (KÜS TEAM75 Bernhard, Porsche 911 GT3-R), winner: "Our weekend got off to a pretty mediocre start with a series of problems. But then David (Jahn) had a great qualifying this morning. We are well satisfied with this victory. In the first half of the race, we could have gone faster than the Porsche ahead of us. Then we stayed out one lap longer and David clocked the decisive time which enabled me to take the lead when I took the car back out onto the track. Thanks to the team for a quick pit stop. In my stint, I concentrated on keeping my lead. Fortunately, that worked perfectly right through to the finish."

Martin Ragginger (Precote Herberth Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3-R), P2 general classification: "If you start from pole position, you obviously want to win. We can still be satisfied with second place, though. The one-two result made this a great race for Porsche. When Kévin (Estre) emerged from the pit lane, it was very close. But in his place I would have risked the move as well. The fact that we ultimately lost the race on the pit stop is of course a bit frustrating."

Nicolai Sylvest (AMG-Team Zakspeed, Mercedes-AMG GT3), P3 general classification, winner in Junior class: "Starting from third, we obviously felt under a bit of pressure. But I got off to a good start and I was able to defend the position. There wasn't much chance of making progress forward. I was always in touch with the Porsches but had no opportunity to overtake. They were fast in sections where I was slow, and I was fast in sections where they were slow. So we effectively cancelled each other out."

Jordan Pepper (Bentley Team ABT, Bentley Continental GT3), P4 general classification, P2 in Junior class: "Fifth on the grid was the maximum we could have achieved in qualifying anyway. In the race, we had some problems with traction because the tyres were degrading a bit too fast. The Porsches and the Mercedes in front of us had much better grip. I was busy making sure that nothing got past from behind, so ultimately finishing fourth counts as a good result."

Daniel Abt (Bentley Team ABT, Bentley Continental GT3), P4 general classification, P2 Junior class: "I would never have thought that we'd finish in the Top Ten after the practice sessions. Jordan (Pepper) subsequently managed to do a good job in qualifying. We were able to gain one position in the race but couldn't push any further forwards. We'll perhaps have another tilt at the podium on Sunday."

Jules Gounon (Callaway Competition, Corvette C7 GT3-R), P5 general classification, P3 Junior class: "Things didn't look at all good for us on Friday, but the team made our car faster before the start of qualifying. We lined up in P6 on the grid and ultimately finished fifth. We missed out on the podium but were able to extend our lead in the championship, as none of our rivals finished in the points, so we can be pleased about that."

Daniel Keilwitz (Callaway Competition, Corvette C7 GT3-R), P5 general classification, P3 Junior class: "We knew that it would be quite tough for us in the race, because of the 30kg success ballast. The other competitors scrapping so hard behind us really helped our cause. We had a clear run. It went well. We've extended our lead in the standings, which was our main aim. We're not able to win at the Nürburgring, so with that in mind, we're happy just to take any points that come our way."

Christian Engelhart (GRT Grasser-Racing-Team, Lamborghini Huracán GT3), P8 general classification, winner Trophy class: "We can't complain - P8 from 24th on the grid! We are very pleased with the race result. We were obviously none too happy with qualifying, though. I myself got past several opponents during my stint, as the team had prepared our car so well."
