ADAC GT Masters: Comments after the race: Observations from the paddock after the second race of the season

Rolf Ineichen (GRT Grasser-Racing-Team, Lamborghini Huracán), winner in general class, winner in Trophy class: "Thanks first of all to my GRT Grasser Racing Team and to my team-mate Christian Engelhart. Without their preparatory work, this brilliant victory would not have been possible. When I was in second place towards the end of the race, I gave it everything I'd got to defend the position against Connor (De Phillippi). If I'd made the slightest mistake, he would have overtaken me. The late safety car deployment obviously played into our hands. As regards the penalty imposed on Sebastian Asch which handed us the race win, I only heard about it by radio after I'd crossed the finish line. To have clinched the overall victory in such a strong series as the ADAC GT Masters despite being first and foremost a Trophy contestant makes me very proud."

Christian Engelhart (GRT Grasser-Racing-Team, Lamborghini Huracán), winner in Trophy class: "What a sensational win! I would never have expected such an outcome. Hats off to Rolf for putting in this really strong performance on his first ever ADAC GT Masters race weekend. Clearly, the circumstances with the safety car and the penalty for Asch and Ludwig played into our hands. I was a bag of nerves right up until the end. My first-half stint had its ups and downs. I was involved in the collision at the start but then managed to make good a few positions. I was ultimately happy about going into the driver changeover in P4."

Christopher Mies (Montaplast by Land-Motorsport, Audi R8 LMS), P2 in general classification, P1 in Junior Cup: "That was a good start to our season. However, we are lacking experience of the tyres on long runs. In the first race, the performance deteriorated. In the second race, we experimented with a different setup. The Audi was very difficult to drive right from the start. That was apparent from the way Connor (De Phillippi) occasionally found himself at 90 degrees to the track. As regards the settings, we're not yet quite where we would want to be. But what can I say? We're top of the table! So everything is OK."

Connor De Phillippi (Montaplast by Land-Motorsport, Audi R8 LMS), P2 in general classification, P1 in Junior Cup: "I suppose my first race weekend in the ADAC GT Masters could have gone worse! But joking aside, two second places are a great result. However, we are still on a learning curve. After all, our team is new in the ADAC GT Masters and we're driving a new car. With a few days of testing, though, we should be heading in the right direction. I'm looking forward to the Sachsenring which I know well from the Porsche Carrera Cup. It's also a track that that should suit the Audi R8."

Florian Stoll (kfzteile24 - APR Motorsport, Audi R8 LMS), P3 in general classification: "In the first half of the race, I got a real shock when I saw our sister car smash hard into the safety barrier. Laurens (Vanthoor) did a great job for us. Our Audi ran beautifully on new tyres. I think we made our pit stop a bit too early. Otherwise, we might have been in with a chance of finishing second. In my stint, I too struggled with the tyres. It was the same problem experience yesterday by Laurens. We need to work on this ahead of the next few races."

Felix Rosenqvist (AMG-Team Zakspeed, Mercedes-AMG GT3), P4 in general classification, P2 in Junior Cup: "A crazy race with many safety car deployments. Whenever we had the opportunity, we made use of it and overtook a few opponents. In between, I got stuck behind a car which was shown the blue flag but didn't immediately move over - that probably cost me three or four seconds. Without this annoyance, we would certainly have been in with a chance of a podium finish. All in all, though, we can live with fourth."

Nikolaj Rogivue (AMG-Team Zakspeed, Mercedes-AMG GT3), P4 in general classification, P2 in Junior Cup: "I am very happy about my first Junior podium. Our car was great. It enabled us to make progress from eighth on the grid. Not much more would have been possible. I was very pleased with my first weekend in a GT3 car. I had expected that there would be a lot more bumps and scrapes than in Formula racing."

Patrick Assenheimer (Callaway Competition, Corvette C7 GT3), P9 in general classification, P3 in Junior Cup: "Ninth is not really an optimum result. Hats off in any case to Dominik (Schwager) who handed me the car in sixth. After that, I was involved in a minor collision. From a speed perspective, we are definitely on the right track, and we will certainly improve in the next few races."

Dominik Schwager (Callaway Competition, Corvette C7 GT3), P9 in general classification, P3 in Junior Cup: "I would summarise that as a positive outcome. In such a strong field of contestants, I would have been satisfied with a place in the P10 to P15 range. We still need to do a lot more testing - the car is new. On the medium-fast to fast sections or tracks, we might look better. We are heading in the right direction, and I'm looking forward to the next few races."
