ADAC GT Masters: Comments after the race: Observations from the paddock regarding the final race of the season

Christopher Mies (Montaplast by Land-Motorsport, Audi R8 LMS), ADAC GT Masters champion: "For quite a few laps at the beginning of the race, I was stuck behind a Porsche. If I´d been absolutely ruthless, I could have got past him, but I didn´t want to take any risks. Then, just before the pit stop, I made an unfortunate error. But the reactions of the team were brilliant, and they immediately called me into the pits. In the second half of the race, there was the accident involving Jules (Gounon). I wish him a speedy recovery. Towards the end, it got a bit tense again, but ultimately we did it. Now we can celebrate. I´ve always wanted to win this series. In 2010 and 2011, I narrowly missed out on the title. It´s certainly one of my greatest achievements in motorsport."

Connor De Phillippi (Montaplast by Land-Motorsport, Audi R8 LMS), ADAC GT Masters champion: "What a race! This was definitely the best day of my racing career – and the most exciting as well. The situation kept changing for us. First we were heading for the title, then we weren´t, and then we were again. Over the radio, I was told that I needed to overtake two other cars. Totally frantic! This is the fourth year that I´ve been competing in Europe. To have won such a major championship as an American means a lot to me. My thanks to everyone who contributed to this triumph, and I´m delighted for every single team member of the Montaplast by Land-Motorsport team."

Robert Renauer (Precote Herberth Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3-R), race winner: "A very enjoyable end to the season after being so unlucky in the first race and having to drop out with a technical failure. Overall, it´s been a mixed season. When things were going well, they went really well. But when they went wrong, it inevitably resulted in a retirement. Now I am looking forward to the break and enjoying a few days off."

Martin Ragginger (Precote Herberth Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3-R), race winner: "We wanted a good end to the season, and that´s what we achieved. It´s some sort of consolation. If we hadn´t had all this bad luck, I think we might have been in contention for the title."

David Jahn (KÜS TEAM75 Bernhard, Porsche 911 GT3-R), second: "As it turned out, this last race was a real thriller for me. While it was going on, I had no idea how tight the situation was. Ultimately, finishing as runner-up in the championship is of course a huge success in my first full ADAC GT Masters season. Any other result would have been a big surprise. I´m particularly pleased that our development as a new team has been on such a steep trajectory."

Kévin Estre (KÜS TEAM75 Bernhard, Porsche 911 GT3-R), second: "We did everything we could right up to the end to keep David´s (Jahn) title chances alive. That would have meant us gaining a position while the Audi was losing one. Unfortunately, though, it wasn´t to be. Our whole team definitely did a great job throughout the season. We were the team who won the most races, and we´re proud of that."

Nicolai Sylvest (AMG Team Zakspeed, Mercedes-AMG GT3), P3 in general classification, winner in Junior class: "Rounding off the season with a podium is great. It serves as a motivation for the future. At the beginning of the weekend, we had a few problems finding the right setup, but towards the end, it was going a lot better. Even on the straights where we are normally not all that strong."

Rolf Ineichen (GRT Grasser Racing Team, Lamborghini Huracán GT3), P4 in general classification, winner in Trophy class: "That comes as something of a consolation. We would like to have made it onto the podium again, but fourth place is not bad. I wish Jules (Gounon) a speedy recovery. I saw him in my rear mirror coming out of the turn, but that´s when he spun off. There was no contact between our cars."

Marvin Dienst (bigFM Racing Team Schütz Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3-R), P5 in general classification, P2 in Junior class: "We started from fifth and just missed out on a podium. Taken together with our third place from the first race, Hockenheim has been our best weekend of the season."

Patrick Assenheimer (Callaway Competition, Corvette C7 GT3-R), P7 in general classification, P3 in Junior class: "We won´t dwell on that 21st place in qualifying. In the race itself, things went so much better. Dominik (Schwager) got off to a very good start and handed over to me in a promising position. I myself then managed to overtake several opponents."

Remo Lips (RWT Racing, Corvette Z06.R GT3), champion in Trophy classification: "I want to apologise to Connor De Phillippi. We were locked in thrilling combat towards the end of the race, and I didn´t realise that the other car was being driven by a contender for the title."
