ADAC GT Masters·29.4.2016

Christer Jöns secures best time in practice: Bentley Team ABT on top

The end of second free practice also marked the close of the first day of events in the ADAC GT Masters at the Sachsenring. After Sebastian Asch had successfully set the morning's fastest time, it was the turn of Christer Jöns to go quickest for Bentley Team ABT in the afternoon session. His lap time of 1.19.897 minutes in the Continental GT3 shortly before the end was both the fastest of the session and best time of the day.

GRT Grasser-Racing-Team also performed well. The two Lamborghini Huracán GT3s of Rolf Ineichen/Christian Engelhart and Luca Stolz/Gerhard Tweraser finished second and third respectively. Three Audis, driven by Florian Stoll/Laurens Vanthoor (both kfzteile24 - APR Motorsport), local driver Philip Geipel and Rahel Frey (both YACO Racing) and Isaac Tutumlu Lopez/Kelvin van Linde (both Car Collection Motorsport), came home behind the best-placed Corvette C7 GT3 of Jules Gounon and Daniel Keilwitz (both Callaway Competition) to finish fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.

The Top Ten was completed by Norbert Siedler and Jaap van Lagen (both HB Racing WDS construction) in another Lamborghini, plus Robert Renauer and Martin Ragginger (both Precote Herberth Motorsport) in the best-placed Porsche 911 and championship leaders Connor De Phillippi and Christopher Mies (both Montaplast by Land-Motorsport). As at Oschersleben, the top teams were almost on an equal footing. One second covered the 17 best-placed cars.

Things will get serious tomorrow when grid positions for the first race are decided in the twenty-minute qualifying session at 9:20 am. Qualifying will be broadcast live and in full on SPORT1 free-to-air TV. Both qualifying and the race will be shown LIVE via online streaming at www.adac.de/motorsport and www.sport1.de.
