The GT3 class will get a further dose of competition as it welcomes the latest addition. Acura, the American off-shoot of Honda, presented its NSX GT3 supercar at the New York International Auto Show.
The grid of the 2016 ADAC GT Masters will feature no fewer than six new GT3 cars: the Audi R8 LMS, BMW M6 GT3, Corvette C7 GT3, Lamborghini Huracán GT3, Mercedes-AMG GT3 and the Porsche 911 GT3 R. The Super Sports Car League could see a completely new manufacturer taking part in the 2018 season – Acura. Its NSX GT3 is currently undergoing comprehensive testing before gaining approval from the FIA as an official GT3 racing car this autumn. The first race outings in the USA are planned for 2017 and the first deliveries are to be made to customers worldwide the following year.
Visually, the Acura NSX GT3 looks really good. A huge rear wing is its most striking feature. Under the bonnet sits a 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo engine which directs power to the rear axle via a six-speed sequential racing gearbox. "The NSX was developed to demonstrate the highest level of craftsmanship on the part of Acura," said Art St Cyr, President of Honda Performance Development. "We can hardly wait to show the GT3 world just what it can do. Along with NSX engineers in Ohio and Japan, we intend to do everything in our power to make the dream of turning the NSX into a world-class racing car come true."
