Loud cheers in the paddock at Bentley Team ABT as Fabian Hamprecht and Christer Jöns clinch second place in the first ADAC GT Masters race at the Red Bull Ring to secure the Kempten-based outfit's first podium of the season. This success also meant victory for Hamprecht in the junior standings for drivers under 25 years ¬- which is also new in 2016.
"We're very happy with the podium result", said Hamprecht. "It wasn't enough for the win, unfortunately, because the Porsche was simply too strong ¬- we saw that straightaway in practice. I didn't bother to try to counterattack when he passed me shortly after the start. He was clearly faster. I drove quite sensibly and handed the car over in second place. The Porsche team's pit stop was as good as ours, so Christer (Jöns) focused on maintaining his position in the second stint of the race. That went well. A great result for the whole team."
Nothing has changed in the Trophy standings. Rolf Ineichen won the category for amateur drivers for the fifth time in seven races. "We've had a tough weekend," said the Swiss driver, who finished sixth overall along with Christian Engelhart. "We blew an engine while practising and missed practice time as a result. Ninth in qualifying was OK under the circumstances. I made a small mistake at the start and lost two places. The pit stop went really well. Christian (Engelhart) then drove an excellent race. Many thanks to our team for setting the car up so perfectly."
