Junior/Trophy: Wins for De Phillippi and Lips: Honours go to American and Swiss in special categories

Connor De Phillippi (23) has put his somewhat mediocre form midway through the season behind him and has picked up from where he left off in the second race at the Nürburgring. The American took maximum points in the Junior classification in the first race of the penultimate ADAC GT Masters weekend at Zandvoort. And he also enhanced his chances and those of his team-mate Christopher Mies (27, DEU, both Montaplast by Land-Motorsport) in the battle for the championship itself: "We obviously wanted to win, but points for podium finishes are also fine. We need to improve various things, and we´ll make an effort to do that in qualifying tomorrow." With just three races left before the end of the season, Jules Gounon is second in the Junior classification, 15 points behind De Phillippi.

Marvin Dienst (19, DEU, bigFM Racing Team Schütz Motorsport) finished Saturday´s race as runner-up in this category ahead of Fabian Hamprecht (21, DEU, Bentley Team ABT).

Claiming a long-awaited debut victory in the 2016 Trophy class was Remo Lips (33). The Swiss amateur partnered by Sven Barth (35, DEU, RWT Racing) came 13th overall in the race, a result with which he was evidently delighted: "At last, we´re back on top of the podium. Everything went just right. As regards driving, we can compete with the best. There weren´t even any crashes this time. And our Corvette is also very good." This first victory of the season for Lips enabled him to leapfrog the previous championship leader Rolf Ineichen (38, CH, GRT Grasser Racing Team), whose Lamborghini was involved in a collision on the opening lap. This dropped him down the general classification to 20th, but he still came second in the Trophy stakes.
