ADAC GT Masters·31.5.2016

Lausitzring: Nine hours of coverage on SPORT1: Full-throttle programme at Motorsport Festival

This coming weekend (3rd - 5th June), the Lausitzring will be hosting a double bill of ADAC GT Masters and the DTM. Spectators can look forward to a motorsport festival with a great line-up. In addition to live racing action from the ADAC GT Masters and ADAC Formula 4, SPORT1 will be showing pre-recorded highlights from the two DTM races in one-hour slots on free-to-air TV. The two Porsche Carrera Cup races will also be broadcast, either live or as highlights. SPORT1 will be transmitting more than nine hours of free-to-air racing action on Saturday and Sunday . There will be extensive additional coverage of all the race series on the sister channel SPORT1+ and as free live streaming on www.SPORT1.de. Sarah Valentina Winkhaus is set to make her SPORT1 debut as a TV presenter at the Lausitzring

Celebrity signing on SPORT1 microphone

As of this weekend, Sarah Valentina Winkhaus will be making regular appearances at selected race events alongside main presenter Julia Josten live from the DTM and other race series at the 'Home of Motorsport': "I'm immensely excited about my new role as a presenter for SPORT1 at the DTM. It's especially nice for me to be returning to free TV where you can reach a large audience. I like to be close up to the DTM action. I also aim to convey that feeling to the TV viewers, so they can virtually smell the race fuel from their sofas." The new recruit has accumulated plenty of motorsport experience in her TV career, not least fronting Formula 1 coverage for Sky Italia: "Because I'm half Italian, I suppose I have motor fuel running through my veins and racing in my DNA."

The SPORT1 team at the Lausitzring

SPORT1 will be broadcasting a total of nine hours on its free-to-air channel from the Lausitzring on Saturday and Sunday. Alongside DTM presenter Winkhaus, main presenter Julia Josten will be performing her customary on-camera role during the ADAC GT Masters and ADAC Formula 4 races, ably supported by Patrick Simon in the commentary box. The main commentator for the DTM and the Porsche Carrera Cup races will be Peter Kohl.

Packed programme

The Motorsport Festival at the Lausitzring is the third fixture on the 2016 calendar for the Super Sports Car League. The Audi duo of Connor De Phillippi and Christopher Mies arrive as championship leaders, with defending champions Luca Ludwig and Sebastian Asch in their Mercedes-AMG not far behind. Special attention will be focused on Markus Winkelhock and Rahel Frey who used to compete in the DTM before switching to the ADAC GT Masters. SPORT1 will be showing both races live (start time on Saturday and Sunday: 13:00 CEST). The races can also be watched as a live stream on www.SPORT1.de.

In ADAC Formula 4, all eyes will once again be on 17-year-old Mick Schumacher who has just had a successful weekend in the Italian Formula 4 series. At Imola, Schumacher posted his third victory of the season and moved up to second place in the Italian championship. In the equivalent ADAC Formula 4 series, Schumacher currently occupies the runner-up spot behind former team-mate Joey Mawson. The free-to-air channel SPORT1 will be showing the first and second of the weekend's three races live on Saturday at 11:45 and at 17:30 CEST. The third race on Sunday (start time 17:50) can be watched exclusively as a live stream on www.SPORT1.de.

The DTM too has a number of strong links to the ADAC GT Masters. Alongside Martin Tomczyk and Bruno Spengler who have made guest appearances at one time or another in the Super Sports Car League, current DTM regulars Maximilian Götz and Maxime Martin first established their reputation there. In 2012, Götz partnered by Sebastian Asch even won the ADAC GT Masters drivers' title. On the previous DTM weekend at Spielberg, Götz got involved in some verbal sparring with Mattias Ekström. The sporting headlines were, however, made by BMW man Timo Glock who rocketed up the standings as a result of finishing first and fourth. Glock arrives at the Lausitzring just six points adrift of leader Paul Di Resta, so the tension is high as the weekend approaches. SPORT1 will be showing highlights from the first race on Saturday at 23:30 and from the second race on Sunday at 23:00. Both races (start times: Saturday at 15:20; Sunday at 15:05) can be watched via live streaming on www.SPORT1.de and on both days as a pre-recorded version at 18:05 on SPORT1+.

The Porsche Carrera Cup is also being staged at the Lausitzring as a support series to the DTM. Highlights from the first race on Saturday will be shown on SPORT1 at 18:30; the second race will be broadcast live on Sunday from 09:45. Both races can also be watched via live streaming on www.SPORT1.de.
