The second free practice session for the last two races of the 2016 ADAC GT Masters at Hockenheim was an opportunity for teams and drivers to test and adjust their setups. It was a case of déja vu at the top of the timesheets as Sebastian Asch (30, DEU) and Luca Ludwig (27, DEU, both AMG team Zakspeed) once again dominated proceedings with a fastest lap of 1:39.776 minutes. The Mercedes duo even improved on their own best time from the first practice session by two tenths of a second.
Just one thousandth of a second behind - less time than the blink of an eye - were Fabian Hamprecht (21, DEU) and Christer Jöns (29, DEU, both Bentley Team ABT) in a Bentley Continental GT3, a repeat of their second-place result in the morning. Their team-mates Andreas Weishaupt (43, DEU) and Marco Holzer (28, DEU, both Bentley Team ABT) were third fastest followed by Nicolai Sylvest (19, DK) and Nikolaj Rogivue (20, CH, both AMG team Zakspeed) in the second of the two Zakspeed Mercedes.
Robert Renauer (31, DEU) and Martin Ragginger (28, A, both Precote Herberth Motorsport) were fifth in the best-placed of the Porsche 911 GT3-Rs. In P6 was the Corvette C7 GT3-R driven by Patrick Assenheimer (24, DEU) and Dominik Schwager (40, DEU, both Callaway Competition). Completing the Top Ten were David Jahn (25, DEU) and Kévin Estre (27, F, both KÜS TEAM75 Bernhard) in a Porsche, Markus Pommer (25, DEU) and Jaap van Lagen (39, NL, both HB Racing WDS Bau) in the best of the Lamborghini Huracán GT3s, the Porsche duo of Marvin Dienst (19, DEU) and Christopher Zanella (26, CH, both bigFM Racing Team Schütz Motorsport), and finally the third of the Bentleys driven by Jordan Pepper (20, ZA) and Daniel Abt (23, DEU, both Bentley Team ABT).
The main contenders for the title had a fairly anonymous afternoon. Second-placed Jules Gounon (21, F) and Daniel Keilwitz (27, DEU, both Callaway Competition) in their Corvette C7 GT3-R finished FP2 in 14th position, while championship leaders Connor De Phillippi (23, USA) and Christopher Mies (27, DEU, both Montaplast by Land-Motorsport) ended the day in P19.
On Saturday morning, they all get down to serious business. In a twenty-minute qualifying session at 09:30 CEST, the drivers battle it out for grid positions for the first race which will be shown live and in its entirety on free-to-air TV channel SPORT1 (coverage commences at 13:00 CEST).
