ADAC GT Masters: Comments after free practice: The contestants at the Red Bull Ring sum up

Jules Gounon (Callaway Competition, Corvette C7 GT3-R): “We had a really good day today. This is obviously a track that suits the Corvette, but the team has found a really great setup for our car. Now we have to see how it performs on Saturday.”

Lucas Auer (BWT Mücke Motorsport, Mercedes-AMG GT3): “The first day was great. I feel quite at ease in the Mercedes-AMG GT3. But I have some learning to do, as I’m still making a few minor errors. But it’s a lot of fun, and I keep developing with each lap.”

Sven Müller (Precote Herberth Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R): “The track does not really suit our car. But we have hit on a good setup for qualifying and for the race itself. Overnight, we’ll try a bit of fine-tuning to extract an extra tenth or two of a second. The gaps in terms of time are very tight. I think we are going to see a couple of very exciting races. With overtaking not being so easy here, the pit stops could play a crucial role. For this reason, we’ve been practising our driver changeovers to try and pinch a bit of time off the opposition.”

Christian Engelhart (GRT Grasser-Racing-Team, Lamborghini Huracán): “It was an eventful day for us. In the first free practice, we didn’t get much driving done, as we had a puncture. In the second session, we experimented with the setup, and I think we’re now OK in that regard. So I’m feeling optimistic about tomorrow.”

Luca Ludwig, Mercedes-AMG Team ZAKSPEED, Mercedes-AMG GT3): “We are highly satisfied with our performance today. We were very fast right from the word go. This track suits the Mercedes-AMG. We intend to get a good result tomorrow and finish on the podium.”

Christopher Höher (Audi Sport racing academy, Audi R8 LMS): “We still have work ahead of us, but I am optimistic. The weather could turn tomorrow and it might rain. That would shuffle the pack again. But whether rain would help our cause remains to be seen.”

Kelvin van der Linde (Aust Motorsport, Audi R8 LMS): “That was not an easy day. We were the ninth-fastest Audi drivers. But I am satisfied with the work we’ve done. We have not shown everything we’re capable of yet, and we have saved a set of tyres. I hope that we’ll take a step forward tomorrow. It is important to score as many points as possible. If it really does rain on Saturday, that would improve our chances.”

Ricky Collard (BMW Team Schnitzer, BMW M6 GT3): “This is the first time I’ve driven here at the Red Bull Ring. I like the track. I think it’s suits our car. It’s a home race for my team-mate Philipp Eng and also for the Schnitzer team. I’m looking forward to the two races here. They’re certainly going to be fun.”
