The 20-year-old made a superb debut in the Super Sports Car League this weekend. After taking third place in the Junior classification on Saturday, Collard proved unbeatable on Sunday. He secured victory overall from pole position in the BMW M6 GT3 fielded by BMW Team Schnitzer along with partner Philipp Eng (27, A) and then also triumphed in the category for drivers under 25 years. Despite being harried from behind, Collard kept his cool in the final period after a safety car period and drove comfortably to victory.
“The weekend went like a dream. My first race weekend in the ADAC GT Masters, and already a first victory!” said Collard. “I’ve been given a great team-mate in Philipp, from whom I’ve already learnt a lot. That was not an easy race. I came under a lot of pressure from the Corvette towards the end, but I withstood it. Many thanks to BMW and BMW Team Schnitzer for the confidence they've placed in me.”
Corvette driver Jules Gounon (22, F Callaway Competition) took second place in the Junior standings from Jeffrey Schmidt (23, CH) in the Audi R8 LMS belonging to Montaplast by Land-Motorsport.
Lamborghini driver Rolf Ineichen (38, CH, GRT Grasser-Racing-Team) won a hard-fought victory in the Trophy class for amateur drivers. He and team-mate Christian Engelhart (30, DEU) dropped to the back of the field following a collision on the first lap but subsequently made a strong charge up the field. Sven Barth (36, DEU, RWT Racing) was second in a Corvette C7 GT3-R.
