15th October 2017 is a date that no-one on Team Rosberg will forget in a hurry. That was when the outfit from Rhineland-Palatinate secured the DTM championship for the first time in their long and illustrious engagement in the series. Winning the title for them was former ADAC GT Masters champion René Rast. And as if taking the drivers' title was not enough in itself, Rosberg also celebrated winning the team championship.
Just a few days after this double triumph, Team Rosberg are already busy making preparations for next season. Early in September, team principal and founder Arno Zensen announced their intention to enter a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 in the 2018 ADAC GT Masters, a commitment that would run in parallel with their title defence in the DTM. Rosberg already have experience of competing in the Super Sports Car League back in the 2009 and 2010 campaigns, in which they notched up one race victory.
When asked about the new challenge, Zensen replied: "With the Lamborghini, we should have a good basis for being among the quickest teams in the ADAC GT Masters. Talks with a potential number one driver are already at an advanced stage, and we are now looking for someone to partner him. This is an exciting project in which we intend to be every bit as successful as we have been in the DTM."
Nico Rosberg - reigning Formula 1 world champion, 2016 ADAC Motorsport Personality of the Year and son of the eponymous Keke Rosberg - added: "In recent years, the Rosbergs have been doing very well in motor racing. Consequently, I feel very, very optimistic about our chances in the ADAC GT Masters. Arno and his team will definitely be a big success there too."
