The Corvette driver, who with his win in the first race had already secured victory overall in the drivers' standings and in the Junior classification for drivers under the age of 25, started the race in P14 along with his partner, Daniel Keilwitz. The duo then went on an impressive charge which moved them up into second place. In the end, Gounon, who had taken over the #77 Corvette from Keilwitz at the half-way stage, missed taking the win by only 1.8 seconds. This was Gounon's fifth success of the season in the Junior stakes.

Gounon: "I didn't want to take any risks when I took over the car, so as not to endanger Callaway's chances of taking the team title but made a move to overtake towards the end when victory was in sight. Things didn't work out, but you learn from your mistakes. I had everything under control, though."

And so, the race win on Sunday at Hockenheim went to the Lamborghini of Trophy driver Rolf Ineichen and Christian Engelhart. This was Ineichen's ninth success in the class for amateur drivers. Nissan driver, Remo Lips, who had already won the title in the Trophy classification, did not finish.
