ADAC GT Masters·9.6.2017

Home race for GRT Grasser Racing: Austrian outfit aiming for another podium

Team Principal Gottfried Grasser: "It's always something very special, and I'm looking forward to it tremendously. We've got extra ballast on board following our double podium and victory in the Lausitz, but we will do our utmost to at least get back on the podium. Home is always best, or so they say."

As usual, Mirko Bortolotti and Ezequiel Perez Companc in the Lamborghini Huracán with start number 19 and Rolf Ineichen and Christian Engelhart in the car bearing #63 will race in Grasser's colours. Ineichen and Engelhart achieved a P4 and a P6 at Spielberg in 2016. They intend to top that this year.

They will have extra competition this weekend in the shape of Lucas Auer. He is the nephew of Austrian ex-Formula 1 star Gerhard Berger and is currently enjoying great success in the DTM, riding high at the head of the standings. Auer is making his ADAC GT Masters debut at the Red Bull Ring. "No problem, competition is good for business," says Mirko Bortolotti. The Italian, who now lives in Vienna, won Grasser Racing's first guest race back in 2015. Bortolotti: "I have very fond memories of the track. Not only did I secure my maiden victory in the ADAC GT Masters at the Red Bull Ring, I've also won other races there. Since I've chosen to live in Vienna, the races are always a home meeting for me. Our package should work well there. Also, both the team and I have had plenty of experience of the track. However, due to the highly competitive nature of the ADAC GT Masters, everything about the car has to be right to ensure that you can compete up front. Should the weather be hot during the weekend, then tyre wear will play a big role. Whether we can attack in the race will depend on having the right setup."

Bortolotti and Perez Companc are second in the standings as they head to Spielberg and will be able rely on huge support there. Gottfried Grasser: "The circuit is only five minutes from our workshop. 80 percent of our team members come from the area and can sleep in their own beds at night. And, besides, many of them will have invited friends, family and sponsors to come along. We will be welcoming around 150 guests each day of the weekend to our hospitality, taking care of their needs, feeding and watering them."
