ADAC GT Masters·30.4.2017

Philipp Eng secures pole for BMW Team Schnitzer: Philipp Eng fastest in qualifying for Sunday's race at Oschersleben

The margins could hardly have been tighter. Philipp Eng (27, A) was fastest by just 23 thousandths of a second in qualifying for the second ADAC GT Masters race at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. This was BMW Team Schnitzer's maiden pole position in the Super Sports Car League - and on their debut weekend! SPORT1 will cover the race today live and in full at 1:00 pm.

Warmer weather and a track that afforded more grip ensured considerably faster lap times in this second quali session than on Saturday. With his best time of 1.25.322 minutes, Eng was some 0.8 seconds faster than polesetter Mathieu Jaminet had been for Saturday's race. This was Eng's third pole position in the ADAC GT Masters, achieved with cars from three different manufacturers - Porsche, McLaren and now BMW. It is also the BMW M6 GT3's maiden pole in this race series.

"I'm really pleased to have secured the first pole position for the BMW M6 GT3," said Eng, who shares the vehicle with Ricky Collard (20, GB). "We never expected to be on pole at BMW Team Schnitzer's first race weekend in the ADAC GT Masters. The team did a great job and sent me out on track at exactly the right time, so I had a clear lap. The car was perfect. I'm now really looking forward to the race. Ricky showed us yesterday that he's quick, despite his limited experience of GT3 racing. We aim to finish on the podium."

Sven Müller (25, GER) qualified second in the Porsche 911 prepared by Precote Herberth Motorsport with a lap time of 1.25.345 minutes. The Porsche works driver is partnered by Robert Renauer (32, GER). Cars from four different brands will be sharing the top grid slots in Sunday's race, as the Corvette C7 of Jules Gounon (22, F) and Daniel Keilwitz (27, GER, both Callaway Competition) and the Lamborghini Huracán of Marco Mapelli (29, I) and Norbert Siedler (34, A, both Team HB Racing) qualified third and fourth respectively.

Ezequiel Perez Companc (22, RA) and Mirko Bortolotti (27, I, both GRT Grasser Racing Team) were fifth in another Lamborghini. Dennis Marschall (20, GER) and Patric Niederhauser (25, CH, both Aust Motorsport) secured P6 on the grid in the best-placed Audi R8. Around one second covered no less than 15 cars in the session.

The second ADAC GT Masters race of the season will get under way today at 1:03 pm. SPORT1 will commence broadcasting live at 1:00 pm.
