In the course of the one-hour session, the Precote Herberth Motorsport man was a mere 32 thousandths faster than Marvin Kirchhöfer (Mercedes-AMG Team HTP Motorsport) in the best of the Mercedes-AMG GT3s. "We had to experiment quite a bit in both practice sessions today, as we initially had some problems with the setup," said Müller. "It eventually got better when we fitted some new tyres. I think that all the cars at the Nürburgring will be very close together. It would be great if we could still manage to find another one or two tenths of a second. Essentially, this is a track that should suit the Porsche. You've got two long straights which the Porsche is really good on due to its aerodynamics. That's where we can gain the most time. In addition, there are fewer fast corners here for us to lose time on, so all in all it should be a good weekend for us."
In third place, and only six thousandths slower was ADAC GT Masters newcomer Albert Costa, who is sharing the cockpit of the Corvette C7 GT3-R entered by Callaway Competition with championship leader Jules Gounon. Costa is standing in for the injured Daniel Keilwitz on this fifth weekend of the season.
Fourth place went to the Grasser Huracán GT3 driven by Christian Engelhart and Rolf Ineichen as the best of the Lamborghinis ahead of the Porsche 911 GT3 R driven by Mathieu Jaminet and Michael Ammermüller (KÜS Team75 Bernhard). Rounding off the Top Six were Felipe Salaquarda and Markus Winkelhock (BWT Mücke Motorsport) in the best of the Audi R8 LMS contingent.
At the end of the session, there were 23 cars within one second of each other; indeed, the entire field of 28 GT3 sports cars was separated by only 1.5 seconds.
