The German was very taken with the series right from the start: "What I found most impressive was the high standard in the ADAC GT Masters with plenty of different cars and makes. Teams and drivers must produce a really good performance in order to win. I’ve learned a lot this season."

The year began very promisingly for the Bingen-based driver and team-mate, Robert Renauer. The two of them even led the overall classification after securing third place in Sunday’s race at the Oschersleben season opener and a win at the Lausitzring. Müller: "We knew from last year’s results that we would be strong there, so we expected a good result. It was obviously terrific to then actually go out and win." But a run of bad luck dogged Herberth’s two drivers after that. "Unfortunately, we were often involved in collisions," said the Porsche works driver. "It need not have happened quite so frequently. It was not until Sunday’s rain-hit race at Zandvoort that we were able to score points again with fourth place. Later in the season at the Nürburgring, we again twice failed to come away with any points. We were subsequently the best-placed Porsche team at the Sachsenring, but unfortunately, it was only got a couple of points, as the track doesn’t suit our car at all.

However, Renauer and Müller were back fighting for top positions in the season finale at the Hockenheimring. They led for a time in Sunday’s race but collided with Nick Catsburg’s BMW in the closing stages and had to settle for P4 following a spin. "We really wanted to win that race", says Müller, who also competed for Porsche at an international level during 2017, both in the Japanese Super GT series and in North America. "We made a superb charge from fifth place and fought our way up front, but then came another needless collision. It was a big pity, because it would have been a terrific way to end the season."

However, Müller was very satisfied with Team Precote Herberth Motorsport. "It’s great to work with the guys. We had a lot of fun but were all one hundred per cent focused on the task in hand whenever things got serious. It’s nice too when you can get along on a personal level. I even went on holiday once during the season with Team Principal Alfred Renauer and his brother Robert. I already knew our race engineer, Michael Rühs, from the Porsche Supercup, so we were really in tune with one another."

It’s not yet certain whether Müller will be back in 2018. "The season was a lot of fun for me. I really would like to take part again next year, but it’s too early to say for sure at this stage."
