Sachsenring: Sebastian Asch with best time: Five Mercedes-AMGs in front

With a time of 1.17.927 minutes, Asch, who is sharing the Mercedes-AMG prepared by BWT Mücke Motorsport with DTM driver Edoardo Mortara this weekend, not only posted the best lap time of the session but also the fastest of this first day at the 3.671-km circuit. Asch: "We've found a good set-up. I hope it will be suitable for tomorrow's qualifying as well, but it's bound to be a bit cooler then than it is now. We were running new tyres to secure best time, so we know where we stand. My lap was a good one. I hope I can do it again tomorrow in the quali. I think that a time of 1.17 minutes will be needed to take pole. Edo did very well, considering he's never driven here before, so I'm confident that we can go on the attack this weekend."

The two Zakspeed Mercedes AMGs driven by Luca Stolz & Luca Ludwig and Nicolai Sylvest & Yelmer Buurman placed second and third respectively. Their fellow Mercedes drivers from Mercedes-AMG team HTP Motorsport, Patrick Assenheimer & Maximilian Götz and Indy Dontje & Marvin Kirchhöfer completed the lock-out at the top of the timesheet by the five 'Mercs'.

Philipp Eng and Nicky Catsburg took P6 in the only BMW M6 in the field from DTM ace Jamie Green and Belgian driver, Alessio Picariello, in the best-placed Audi R8. Championship leader Jules Gounon finished tenth in the Corvette with his partner, Renger van der Zande.
