After winning the general classification on Saturday, Gounon (22, FRA, Callaway Competition) partnered by Daniel Keilwitz (27, DEU) finished third overall on Sunday. Starting from eighth on the grid, the duo were able to work their way forward by means of clever race strategy and fast lap times. Gounon eventually progressed to third on the penultimate lap, thereby clinching victory in the category for drivers under 25 years of age. Together with partner Keilwitz, the Frenchman also leads the drivers’ championship after six out of 14 ADAC GT Masters races in 2017.
"We had a good race and, above all, a superb pit stop strategy which gained us a few places," said Gounon. "I had a very satisfying and tight scrap with Patrick Assenheimer in the final phase for third place. Two laps before the finish, I managed to overtake him. My thanks go to the whole team."
Lamborghini driver Rolf Ineichen (39, CH) enjoyed an even more successful day in his challenge for the Trophy, which is the current designation for the amateur classification. His GRT Grasser Racing team-mate Christian Engelhart (30, DEU) first consolidated pole position with a brilliant start which he converted into a massive lead. When Ineichen took over at the mandatory pit stop, he had the job of bringing the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 home in first place, which was not made any easier by the engine misfiring on the last few laps. For the Swiss driver, this was the second general class victory in the Super Sports Car League.
