"This race weekend is the one to top them all as far as we're concerned," says Geipel, who shares the YACO Audi R8 LMS with Swiss driver Rahel Frey. "We've been looking forward to this since the start of the season. The circuit is only 60 kilometres from team headquarters. The track and atmosphere there are very special. Plus, we did really well there last year, finishing second on the podium on Sunday."

The team expect to see plenty of fans and guests at the race weekend. "Unfortunately, we've had to let some of them down gently, as we're at full capacity," said Geipel. "It's always impressive when, for example, you see lots of familiar faces during the Pitwalk. It's great to see that spectators are following us as a local team and are prepared to come to the circuit to wish us luck."

However, apparently, Geipel does not know the track layout any better than his rivals in the ADAC GT Masters. "I've not been to the Sachsenring since Sunday's race last year, which was almost 18 months ago," said the 30-year-old. "But it's my absolute favourite and comparable to the Nordschleife. The Sachsenring is a roller-coaster of a circuit and has a special character all of its own. You get a nice rhythm when you're driving, but there's never any time to relax, you know. It's also great being close to the fans - the stands are close to the track." Geipel is really keen on one key section: "I like the final, fast sector. The left-hander in particular, which is part of the kart track, really sorts the men out from the boys, especially since it's just been resurfaced. Only those who have complete faith in their cars drive really fast there. But at the Sachsenring, it's also important to have plenty of momentum as you go into the turns, so you need a well-balanced car."

Geipel is hoping for a good result in front of their home fans: "We've had a very bad season so far with lots of incidents in the races. Our points total is looking a bit sorry for itself, which has sometimes had a negative impact on our motivation, for sure. And so, we aim to rack up the points in our home race and show that we can do it. We can be podium contenders, as we've proved many times in the past. It would be fabulous to finish on the podium again at the Sachsenring."
