His goals are still modest for the moment: "I intend to learn as much as possible this season." The Swiss driver is racing for the first time in the ADAC GT Maters this year, driving an Audi R8 LMS fielded by Audi Sport racing academy. The 16-year-old is both the youngest driver in the field of entrants and also the youngest ever in the history of the racing series.
Feller has now made the big leap up into the Super Sports Car League. He was still racing karts two years ago and was crowned champion in the KF3 category in his home country of Switzerland. He lined up in the ADAC Formula 4 last season. The single-seaters produce 160 bhp, but Feller’s new Audi 'company car' has almost four times as much power at around 585 bhp.
Feller: "Still, I feel very comfortable in the car. I think I'm around 85 percent there already. With a bit more experience, I'll be able to get even more out of the car. The biggest change for me is the increased weight of the vehicle, as the R8 LMS is more than twice as heavy as an ADAC Formula 4 racing car, which makes it behave very differently."
The switch from the ADAC Formula 4 was totally unplanned originally. Feller: "Formula motor racing is very expensive, and we couldn’t afford a season in Formula 3. I contacted Audi through a friend and initially intended to line up in the Audi Sport TT Cup."
But Audi gave Feller the chance to test an Audi R8 LMS at the Nürburgring – in the rain. He excelled straightaway, and after that, it was obvious that he was ready for GT racing despite his limited experience. He is signed to Audi Sport racing academy, who are competing in the ADAC GT Masters for the first time in 2017. Feller is being given all the tools needed to equip him for a career as a professional driver, including fitness, mental and media training, by a team led by driver coach, Sepp Haider, aided by experienced mentors such as Pierre Kaffer and Rahel Frey.
Who knows, maybe the junior Audi driver will one day follow in the footsteps of fellow Swiss driver Marcel Fässler, who won the 24-Hours of Le Mans and the FIA Endurance World Championship for the brand with the four rings. "Marcel is a terrific racing driver and, of course, a shining example to us all," says Feller, who is also currently training to work in the business sector.
