ADAC GT Masters: Comments after the first race: Observations from the paddock after the race on Saturday

Maximilian Buhk (Mann-Filter Team HTP Motorsport, Mercedes-AMG GT3), P1 overall and winner in the Pirelli Junior class: "That was a good race. Indy kept himself out of everything that was going on at the start and handed over the car in third. The pit stop was almost perfect, so I quickly tried to pass Kim-Luis Schramm because I saw that he was having some problems. That worked. In fact, everything went well today."

Indy Dontje (Mann-Filter Team HTP Motorsport, Mercedes-AMG GT3), P1 overall and winner in the Pirelli Junior class: "A great race for us. We had a good qualifying with P2. To be honest, we hadn’t expected to be so far forward. I was a bit hesitant at the start and found myself down in third place. But I stayed calm and finished my stint. After that, Maxi did a great job and passed Kim-Luis Schramm shortly after taking over the car. He then controlled the race."

Christopher Haase (BWT Mücke Motorsport, Audi R8 LMS), P2 overall and runner-up in the Pirelli Junior class: "The race was terrific. Ricardo laid the foundation for it in qualifying with a great lap and sixth place. It was plain for everyone to see what a talent he is. We had a really good pace in the race. Although we got a five-second penalty – no complaints about that, by the way – we focused on getting the maximum result. We made the pit stop at the right time, reducing the impact of the penalty as far as possible. That helped us to make it onto the podium after all."

Ricardo Feller (BWT Mücke Motorsport, Audi R8 LMS), P2 overall and runner-up in the Pirelli Junior class: "That was my first podium finish today. I briefly led the race and, in the end, we secured a somewhat unlikely second place. I am extremely pleased about that. At the start, I unfortunately misjudged the gantry light and accelerated away too early. The five-second penalty was justified. I think we made the best of the situation. The car was awesome and then Christoph capped it all off. Just great!"

Andrea Caldarelli (ORANGE1 by GRT Grasser, Lamborghini Huracán GT3), P3 overall: "We knew this weekend was going to be very tough in terms of performance. That’s why we focused on getting as many points as possible. I think our podium was well deserved. We didn’t make any mistakes, and in all honesty, I don’t think we had the pace to win. It was the maximum we were ever going to achieve on the day."

Mirko Bortolotti (ORANGE1 by GRT Grasser, Lamborghini Huracán GT3), P3 overall: "I moved up to fourth on the first lap. After that, it was actually a perfect race. We were not totally competitive in terms of pace, but we got the maximum out of the car."

Luca Stolz (Team Zakspeed BKK Mobil Oil Racing, Mercedes-AMG GT3), P5 overall and P3 in the Pirelli Junior class: "We booked third place in qualifying and were obviously intent on finishing third or even higher. What we did was OK, but of course not a top performance. It was a tough race, and we gave it everything we had. But in the end, we had to settle for fifth. We have to work on that tomorrow."

Sebastian Asch (Team Zakspeed BKK Mobil Oil Racing, Mercedes-AMG GT3), P5 overall and P3 in the Pirelli Junior class: "The start was a bit messy and we unfortunately lost some places. But there was nothing Luca could have done about that. He collided with the car in front because he had nowhere else to go. After that, we managed to hang on to our position. We were closing in on the two Lamborghinis but unfortunately lost more than a second on the pit stop. But fifth place is quite satisfactory. Tomorrow in qualifying, we intend to attack again and get ourselves in with a decent chance."

Kévin Estre (KÜS Team75 Bernhard, Porsche 911 GT3 R), P6 overall: "It’s such a pity. Timo got away to a mega start, but unfortunately we were handed a penalty and had to remain stationary in the pits for an extra five seconds, which cost us four places. I then fought hard, taking a lot out of the tyres, but in the end, no more was possible. I think, though, that we extracted the maximum. It’s a shame about the penalty. The car wasn’t too bad, even though we’re still lacking that bit of performance that would put us among the front-runners. Still, we’ve got the potential to be in the Top Five."

Rolf Ineichen (GRT Grasser Racing Team, Lamborghini Huracán GT3), P11 overall and winner in the Pirelli Trophy class: "Unfortunately, I messed up during qualifying this morning. We tried to make the best of things in the race. I benefited from the chaotic start and moved up quite a few places, after which, I had an error-free drive without any bumps or scrapes. Ultimately, we can be satisfied with this result."

Christian Engelhart (GRT Grasser Racing Team, Lamborghini Huracán GT3), P11 overall and winner in the Pirelli Trophy class: "It was very hot in the car today, but the racing was good. Rolf got away to a great start and drove a fantastic race. A Mercedes in front of me eased off the throttle as I was coming into the pits and I had to brake really hard. He wasn’t even doing 40 km/h. After that, I fought all the way to the end and was able to move up a few places, but we missed the points by one place, unfortunately."
