ADAC GT Masters: Comments after the second race: Observations on Sunday's race at the Hockenheimring

Sheldon van der Linde (Montaplast by Land-Motorsport, Audi R8 LMS), overall winner, P1 in Pirelli Junior class: "The race was very good. I wasn't expecting to win either of them this weekend. It obviously hurts to lose the championship by just a single point, but we at least won the race. For that reason, we are delighted. I am very satisfied with my first season in the ADAC GT Masters. We gave it everything we'd got."

Kelvin van der Linde (Montaplast by Land-Motorsport, Audi R8 LMS), overall winner, P1 in Pirelli Junior class: "We are very proud to have secured our second win of the season. Montaplast by Land-Motorsport did a great job throughout the entire year - my brother too. It certainly wasn't the second half of the campaign when we lost the championship. We did our best und were a bit unlucky. Let's see what next year brings. We definitely want to return."

Christian Engelhart (GRT Grasser Racing Team, Lamborghini Huracán GT3), P2 overall: "We got off to a good start. I actually thought that I might have braked too early. But that wasn't the case, as I subsequently found out. After the restart, I was able to build up a solid lead, and I had really good pace. Towards the end, it turned into a very exciting and fair fight between Rolf and Sheldon van der Linde."

Rolf Ineichen (GRT Grasser Racing Team, Lamborghini Huracán GT3), P2 overall: "We are satisfied. It's been a very difficult year for Lamborghini. Here too, we were at the limit. They should actually rename this circuit the Christianring. He is so strong here, and he showed it again today. I am very proud of him. Towards the end, it was a difficult situation for me. Sheldon was faster and I didn't want to do anything stupid. I could have closed down his overtaking move - at the beginning of the season, we would certainly have contested it harder. But I wasn't sure if Sheldon was fighting for the championship, so I left the door open. Anyway, we can still be satisfied. A big thank-you goes to Christian for his performance this year and also to the team who keep preparing the car so well for us, despite all our difficulties."

Maximilian Buhk (Mann-Filter HTP, Mercedes-AMG GT3), P3 overall, P2 in Pirelli Junior class: "It was a relatively relaxed race for us. I was glad that I came through the first corner in one piece. It was a bit chaotic there. After that, it was more a case of following behind rather than overtaking. We opted for a good strategy, because the others stopped relatively early and we made good use of a traffic-free track."

Indy Dontje (Mann-Filter Team HTP, Mercedes-AMG GT3), P3 overall, P2 in Pirelli Junior class: "Maxi did a great job. After the stop, I was surprised to find myself in front of the Herberth Porsche. On my outlap, I had to defend the position, but then I got into a good rhythm. After I overtook the BMW, it got a bit boring towards the end. But third place is still a good result for us."

Mikkel Jensen (BMW Team Schnitzer, BMW M6 GT3), P4 overall, P3 in Pirelli Junior class: "We know that we struggle with rapid tyre degradation. When I got in the car, I set the traction control high to make sure the tyres would last to the end. I think the overtaking manoeuvre was not quite fair, and I was forced out. But he would have got past me anyway, on the next lap at the very latest. Our result was ultimately the best we could achieve on the day."

Timo Scheider (BMW Team Schnitzer, BMW M6 GT3), P4 overall, P3 in Pirelli Junior class: "With the season drawing to a close, it was nice to be once again fighting for the podium. The start of the race was good, and we were able to match the others for pace. But it was pretty clear that we would get our usual problems towards middle of the race. We saw yesterday that the rear tyres degrade around this stage of the race. We more or less made it over the distance, but Mikkel then had no chance."

Robert Renauer (Precote Herberth Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R), P5 overall: "After we qualified in tenth place and Maxi Götz on pole, we feared that everything was lost. We feel so sorry for him and Markus after they got caught up in the collision at the start. They would have been worthy championship winners. We had luck on our side this time."

Mathieu Jaminet (Precote Herberth Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R), P5 overall: "I stayed absolutely calm in the car. I wanted to gain as many places as possible at the start, and I finished the first lap in P4 having started from tenth. I then wanted to overtake the BMW as well, to close the gap to the Land Audi, but I couldn't get past. When I got out of the cockpit, I could hardly bear the tension. Robert fought for every position on the track, with the Audi in first place and the Corvette coming up fast from behind. But in the end, we did enough. It's great to have won my first title in GT racing. I'm proud of the whole team. My thanks go to the entire crew, to Porsche, to our sponsors and of course to our fans."

Maximilian Götz (Mann-Filter Team HTP, Mercedes-AMG GT3), DNF: "We have now been taken out in three of the last four races. I mean, what can you say? The Audi driver concerned has apologised, and I realise that he did not do it on purpose. But the fact is, that he has totally deprived us of our chance to win the championship, all because of an unnecessary move. It's an extremely bitter pill to swallow, because I'm sure we had the pace to win the race today, and with it the championship."
