Alfred Renauer to drive for HB Racing: Bavarian steps in for injured Dominik Schwager

During the third weekend of the 2018 ADAC GT Masters, the 33-year-old will be sharing the cockpit of the Ferrari 488 GT3 with regular driver Luca Ludwig. Renauer is actually team principal of Precote Herberth Motorsport, so he will temporarily step down from this role to focus fully on his temporary engagement by the other team.

“We are happy to have recruited Alfred, a driver who knows the team very well,” said team boss Dietmar Hirsch. “Once it became clear that Dominik would be unable to participate, we looked at various options and secured the services one of the fastest available drivers in the shape of Alfred. He has proven his worth on many occasions, especially at the Red Bull Ring. We rate Alfred very highly and are delighted that he will be lining up for our team again. He is a worthy substitute for Dominik, whom we sincerely wish a speedy recovery. The entire crew is looking forward to his return to the car.”

Alfred Renauer played a key role in the founding of HB Racing and its first steps in the sport, and the excellent relationship between the driver and the Neumarkt-based outfit continues to this day. In 2014, Renauer gave HB Racing ongoing support and was instrumental in them winning several races in the Gentlemen (amateur) class and ultimately taking the Gentlemen title.

“I’m really looking forward to competing at the Red Bull Ring,” says Renauer. “It’s going to be a very special weekend for me, as I will be completely stepping down from the role of team boss and focusing on my role as a driver. The Spielberg circuit is one of my absolute favourite tracks, and I am pleased to have this opportunity to compete in a Ferrari 488 GT3 for the first time. I’m obviously hoping that Dominik Schwager will soon be back on his feet.”
