Audi driver Schmidt wins Pirelli Junior class: Barth and Hürtgen best Trophy drivers

The Swiss BWT Mücke Motorsport driver had already secured pole position for the first race of the ADAC GT Masters in Most earlier in qualifying. He confidently defended the lead in the race and then handed over his Audi R8 LMS to team-mate Stefan Mücke, who went on to secure victory at the finish line without problem. This was Schmidt's first win overall in the series and his fourth overall success in the Pirelli Junior classification.

"What a perfect day! It's just indescribable. I've been working towards this first victory for a long time now. I came quite close on a couple of occasions in 2017, but now the moment has finally arrived. Many thanks to the team and Peter Mücke for making sure that our preparations for the season worked out so well. Winning is never easy, even though it may have looked like that today. Keeping the lead from pole position was the key to our victory."

Dutchman Indy Dontje, who finished fourth together with Maximilian Buhk in the Mercedes-AMG prepared by MANN-FILTER Team HTP Motorsport was the second-best junior this Saturday in Most. The Dane Mikkel Jensen, who shares the BMW M6 GT3 from BMW Team Schnitzer with ex-DTM star Timo Scheider, completed the party on the Junior podium in third place.

For the third time this season, a different set of winners secured the win in the Pirelli Trophy classification in this third race, namely, Sven Barth and Claudia Hürtgen at the wheel of RWT Racing's Corvette C7 GT3-R. They also scored points in the overall standings. "I'm very satisfied," said Barth, "also with P8 overall. I stayed out of all the trouble at the start and improved from 13th to ninth, and then we gained one more place. Claudia managed the race well and kept her position at the finish line. Our pace was terrific in the end and might have been good enough to take maybe sixth or even fifth place, but overtaking is tricky in this highly competitive field."
