Van der Linde, who shares the drive in the Audi R8 LMS with his brother Kelvin, posted a 1:27.002 which was the fastest of the afternoon and much quicker than Lamborghini driver Franck Perera’s time from first practice. “We’ve had an excellent day,” said Montaplast by Land Motorsport driver van der Linde. “Our Audi is very strong this weekend. We know from past experience that the Nürburgring really suits the R8. I’m looking forward to tomorrow, because we were consistently in the Top Three today. There’s now a bit of pressure on me to secure pole position tomorrow. It’s important that we get a good haul of points tomorrow. If Saturday is hot again, then that should suit our car.”
Kim-Luis Schramm and Nicolai Sylvest were second-fastest in FP2 in the best-placed Mercedes-AMG prepared by local favourites, Zakspeed BKK Mobil Oil Racing. They missed best time by only 34 thousandths of a second. Adrien de Leener and Klaus Bachler from KÜS Team75 Bernhard finished third in the best Porsche 911 GT3 R with a deficit of 0.171 seconds.
Fourth place went to Christopher Dreyspring and Giorgio Maggi in the Honda NSX GT3 fielded by Honda Team Schubert Motorsport. Indy Dontje and Maxi Buhk came home behind them in fifth place in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 from Mann-Filter Team HTP Motorsport.
