Maximilian Götz (MANN-FILTER Team HTP, Mercedes-AMG GT3): “We organised our programme for free practice not so much with qualifying in mind but focusing more on the race itself. There was rain in the second session. When we got out on the track, it was already pretty wet. That’s why we are relatively low down on the timesheets. Later, when we were on the track with the other cars, we were among the fastest. The car feels great and we are well prepared.”
Mathieu Jaminet (Precote Herberth Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R): “Our sessions today were OK. In the dry, we were struggling a bit with the balance of the car, because the weather has changed considerably since the test yesterday. In the rain, the car was fine. We put in plenty of laps in both sessions and are looking forward to tomorrow. The temperature in qualifying is set to be cool, which suits the Porsche.”
Sheldon van der Linde (Montaplast by Land Motorsports, Audi R8 LMS): “Our car works really well here. Obviously, we don’t know who was on new tyres this morning. I’m a little surprised how good we were. Tomorrow will be a very important day. We have to qualify as far forward as we can and survive the first lap without getting caught up in any accidents. We’re going to give it everything we’ve got in the title fight.”
Luca Ludwig (HB Racing, Ferrari 488 GT3): “We are still struggling a bit with the performance. It’s forecast to rain on Sunday, so it was good that we had this opportunity to drive in the wet again.”
Marvin Kirchhöfer (Callaway Competition, Corvette C7 GT3): “It’s difficult for us to judge where we stand, especially in the wet. So we’ll have to wait and see tomorrow how good we are compared to the others. In the dry, it was OK. We’re not quite happy with the balance yet, and we still have a bit of work to do on the setup.”
Christopher Dreyspring (Honda Team Schubert Motorsport, Honda NSX GT3): “Today was a difficult day for us. In the test on Thursday, we had some problems with the setup. We took a step in the right direction in the first free practice session today. In FP2, we were hoping to make further progress. Then it started to rain. It was quite difficult for us in the wet because we were driving with a setup for the dry.”
Christian Engelhart (GRT Racing Team, Lamborghini Huracán GT3): “At the beginning of the second session, the track was not so wet, so we even tried it with slicks, although that didn’t work. We immediately switched to rain tyres, and the car then went very well in the wet, as you can see from us topping the timesheets. I hope that will again be the case on Sunday morning, when more rain has been forecast.”
Timo Scheider (BMW Team Schnitzer, BMW M6 GT3): “It’s been difficult to get a clear picture today. Not only because the conditions were different, but also because we tried various things on the car that did not quite work one hundred percent for us. With the forecast for Sunday being rain, I would like to have driven a few more laps in the wet. If it’s dry tomorrow, we should reasonably competitive.”
