ADAC GT Masters·8.6.2018

Comments following practice: Drivers sum up their thoughts and feelings after Friday at Spielberg

Dennis Marschall (BMW Team Schnitzer, BMW M6 GT3): "We benefited from the fact that we didn't have a particularly good weekend at Most and therefore had some fresh tyres left over. The BMW goes really well at this track - especially through the fast corners. Of course, it was only free practice, and we've no idea what the other teams did."

Philip Ellis (Phoenix Racing, Audi R8 LMS): "Our day was pretty mediocre. We struggled, especially in the morning. We then made some changes to setup, which made the car much better, but we're still a little bit down on the other Audis. Things looked quite promising in the race simulation, though, so let's wait and see where we stand. Not everybody will have shown their hand, definitely not! It's tomorrow that really counts."

Clemens Schmid (AutoArenA Motorsport, Mercedes-AMG GT3): "I feel quite at home here. We're doing very well as far as times go. The first sector is our main problem."

Alfred Renauer (HB Racing, Ferrari 488 GT3): "I'm very satisfied. Things went well in both practice sessions. I think we've got a good setup for tomorrow's qualifying. You have to get accustomed to the Ferrari a little bit initially, but I think I succeeded. I'm looking forward to my first qualifying session in the ADAC GT Masters in four years."

Mirko Bortolotti (ORANGE1 by GRT Grasser, Lamborghini Huracán GT3): "What an interesting day! We tried out one or two things with setup today, but it's hard to say where we stand. We will only find that out during the weekend. It looks a bit like the track doesn't quite suit us, but we'll try to extract the maximum and see where we end up."

Christopher Zöchling (MRS GT-Racing, BMW M6 GT3): "We didn't have all that good a day. We had a technical issue on the right-hand side to the rear. Our pace was okay, but not amazing. Our problem forced us to pit early, so we couldn't drive at the pace we had previously planned."

Esteban Gurrieri (Honda Team Schubert Motorsport, Honda NSX GT3): "I'm very pleased to be in a GT3 car and am very grateful to Honda for that. It's a fantastic challenge. I'm trying to learn a lot. So far so good! It's just incredible how close the racing is. A mere three tenths of a second adrift of best time is enough to put you out of the Top Fifteen! It took a few sessions during testing to get used to the car, but I'm getting on fine with it now."

Sebastian Asch (Team Zakspeed BKK Mobil Oil Racing, Mercedes-AMG GT3): "We're finding it a bit difficult to get into the Top Ten here. We lack straight-line speed. Our goal should therefore be to finish as the best-placed Mercedes-AMG, and then we'll have to see exactly where we finish up overall."

Timo Bernhard (KÜS Team75 Bernhard, Porsche 911 GT3 R): "We had quite a good day. We were able to work on set-up a fair bit. We finished sixth in the first session and were second the second time around. We've worked hard to get back up front after Most. I hope it pays off, but the field is still as tightly bunched as ever."
