Corvette driver Keilwitz secures pole on Sunday: Six different brands in top six positions

While qualifying on Saturday had been dominated by Marvin Kirchhöfer in the Corvette, his Callaway Competition team-mate, Daniel Keilwitz. had to fight much harder for his pole position on Sunday. The lead changed hands several times in the final minutes of the half-hour session until finally, P1 went to the 2013 champion with a 1.28.268. In the end, Keilwitz was only 0.090 seconds faster than Ferrari driver Luca Ludwig in second place.

"I hit traffic on my first hot lap. I then had another go, and my lap went well," said Keilwitz, who achieved his first pole position since the Red Bull Ring two years ago. "I could have found another tenth maybe, but otherwise it was a great lap, giving us a fantastic grid position for the second race." Keilwitz and team-mate Marvin Kirchhöfer had comfortably finished on top in the first qualifying session on Saturday.

Luca Ludwig clinched the best qualifying result so far for Austrian team HB Racing with the Ferrari 488 GT3 which the outfit are deploying for the first time this season. "Qualifying was very exciting," said the German, who is sharing the drive in the red racing car with Alfred Renauer this weekend. It's a home fixture for our team, so we want to be out in front here. Second place was our goal and we achieved that. We are mega pleased with the result. Of course, we want to finish on the podium in the race."

Third place went to the Porsche of Robert Renauer and Mathieu Jaminet from Precote Herberth Motorsport. Behind them came Dries Vanthoor and Florian Spengler in the fastest Audi R8 LMS of Team EFP by TECE, followed by Markus Pommer and Maximilian Götz in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 prepared by Mann-Filter Team HTP Motorsport.

Jens Klingmann and Christopher Zöchling in the MRS GT-Racing BMW M6 GT3 were sixth, ensuring that cars from six different brands will occupy the top six positions on the grid for the sixth race of the ADAC GT Masters season. A look at the remaining positions shows just how evenly matched cars and drivers were in qualifying with 26 vehicles covered by one second, All 36 GT3 sports cars finished within 1.4 seconds of one another.
