The sequence of different pole-sitters has continued into the twelfth ADAC GT Masters qualifying session of the year. In Sunday's quali at the Sachsenring, Klaus Bachler secured his first pole position of the season with a time of 1:18.224 minutes. It will be the first time since 2015 (also at the Sachsenring) that the Austrian, who now shares a Porsche 911 GT3 R with Adrien de Leener, starts from P1 in the Super Sports Car League. For KÜS Team75 Bernhard, it is the second pole position of the weekend. On Saturday, Timo Bernhard in the sister car claimed a maiden pole position which he and partner Kévin Estre duly converted into victory.
"I put in a cracking lap," said a delighted Bachler. "I couldn't be happier. Yesterday, we saw just how fast our cars are here. I had an unobstructed lap, and the tyres worked perfectly. It was exactly the way you would want it. Our objective is to finish in the same position we start from. The pace of Timo and Kévin was very good in yesterday's race, so we hope it's going to be a similar picture for us today."
Championship leader Maximilian Götz secured second place on the grid for himself and partner Markus Pommer. The Mercedes-AMG driver was 0.129 seconds off pole: "I'm very satisfied. This second place is essential in our title challenge, because we need to score points. However, I'm not planning to take any risks at the start, as our main title rivals are further back on the grid." The second of the two 'Yellow Mambas' entered by Mann-Filter Team HTP and driven by Indy Dontje and Maximilian Buhk took third place on the grid. "I set my fast lap very early in the session because we were expecting traffic later on," says Buhk. "Unfortunately, it was not quite enough in the end, but I'm still satisfied."
The fourth-fastest time was clocked by Robert Renauer and Mathieu Jaminet, who are currently second in the championship. However, the Precote Herberth Motorsport Porsche duo have been handed a five-place grid penalty for an accident in Saturday's race. P5 in the second quali of the weekend went to Mike David Ortmann and Markus Winkelhock of BWT Mücke Motorsport in the best of the Audi R8 LMS contingent.
