Keke Rosberg: Great motorsport, brutally tight: Nürburgring brings Team Rosberg their first points

The 1982 Formula 1 world champion watched his Team Rosberg go about their business and was not only delighted with the first points of the comeback year in the Super Sports Car League as a Lamborghini outfit but also enjoyed the quality of the racing action with slipstream duels and impressive overtaking manoeuvres.

"Great motorsport against a great backdrop," said the Finn of the packed grandstands and the field of 30+ cars all capable of setting lap times within one second of each other. "It really is brutally tight in the ADAC GT Masters and therefore all the more gratifying that, in our apprenticeship year with the Lamborghini, we have managed to gain a foothold in the series and have at last been rewarded for our hard work in recent months with our first championship points."

These were scored by Aaro Vainio and co-driver Michele Beretta in the Saturday race. Having started from P20, the Finnish-Italian duo battled their way through to ninth. They then advanced to P8 when opponents were handed a late penalty.

Team boss Arno Zensen was full of praise for his drivers: "It is particularly pleasing that the two of them have made it into the points entirely by their own efforts and by virtue of their own pace. No fancy tactics, no lucky weather breaks, no gambling on tyres - just pure racing."

Rosberg are the current DTM team champions but clearly have room for improvement in the ADAC GT Masters, as evidenced by the fact that Vainio and Beretta finished just outside the Top Ten on Sunday while the second Rosberg-Lamborghini driven by Jonathan Judek and Jimmy Eriksson also narrowly missed out on the points in both races. Zensen: "We're still a few tenths of a second away from competing with the front-runners. But we're working on it. You have to remember, however, that our four talented juniors are up against 30 seasoned pros and works drivers. This does not make it easy to finish in the points, even for other established ADAC GT Masters teams with similar driver line-ups."

The team led by Arno Zensen is especially looking forward to the two upcoming races at Zandvoort (17th - 19th August): "We had our first victory of the season here in the DTM with Audi in July. That could be a good omen for us. Maybe our Lambos can make an impression on this great and fast 'old-school' track in the North Sea dunes."
