Lamborghini Squadra Corse unveiled the new Huracán GT3 EVO last weekend at the Nürburgring. The racing car is a revised version of the Huracán GT3 which competes in a number of series, including the ADAC GT Masters. The Lamborghini Huracán has won seven races in the ADAC GT Masters since first taking part in the championship in 2015.
The Huracán GT3 EVO has been developed by Lamborghini's motor racing department, Squadra Corse, at Sant'Agata Bolognese. The racing car's aerodynamics, mechanics, electronics, engine and interior have all been improved. The front splitter now has a more pronounced leading edge. This component on the previous model was made of fibre-glass but will in future be moulded in carbon-fibre to further improve cooling with its centrally-placed rib.
The introduction of electro-hydraulic power steering or EHPS (Electro Hydraulic Power Steering) is a big step forwards as regards electronics, because the degree of power steering input can now be directly controlled by means of a switch on the steering wheel. The Huracán GT3 EVO has a re-designed roll-cage to ensure easier access to the roof hatch, setting new standards for safety.
The vehicle is powered by a 5.2-litre V10 naturally aspirated engine with new camshafts and titanium valves to optimise driveability and ensure greater reliability when racing.
The kinematics of the front suspension have also been modified in line with ongoing development of the car's mechanical systems. The front suspension arms were previously made of steel but are now forged from aluminium billets in order to minimise rolling resistance and optimise the way the axles are connected to the chassis. The designers also improved the rear axle with new hubs, bearings and half-shafts that have tripod CV joints to ensure more efficient transmission of power and easier maintenance.
Giorgio Sanna, Head of Lamborghini Motorsport, explains: "The new Huracán GT3 EVO is the result of the insights we have gained over the past three years at racetracks around the world. The main goal in development was to improve driveability, thus ensuring easier and more predictable handling for amateur drivers while keeping running costs low for teams at the same time. We can offer teams who have previously fielded the current Lamborghini Huracán GT3 in GT races an EVO upgrade kit which will conform to the regs for the next three seasons. In addition, we will also make our on-track technical support and spare parts service available at all national and international championships."
The previous model Huracán GT3 can be fitted with an upgrade package. Interested parties can order the vehicle now from the manufacturer. The Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO will make its track debut next year in the 24-Hours of Daytona. The race in Florida traditionally marks the start of the endurance racing season.
