Around ten minutes into the half-hour session, the GRT Grasser Racing Team driver clocked a lap time of 1:35.785 minutes which would have been good enough to qualify for pole position but he improved on his next hot lap to post a 1:35.768 to finally secure his maiden pole in the ADAC GT Masters. This was also the first pole position of any Argentinean driver in the history of the series.
"I'm very happy. The car was awesome," said Perez Companc, who is sharing the Lamborghini with works driver Marco Mapelli for the first time at Zandvoort. "I went out early, as there were so many red flags in qualifying last year. This pole position is one of the greatest achievements of my career to date – and to do it on a track as amazing as Zandvoort! However, we intend to keep our feet on the ground now and focus on the race."
His Grasser team-mate, Mirko Bortolotti, also secured a place on the front row with a deficit of 0.177 seconds on the man to beat in qualifying. The Italian shares the Huracán GT3 with fellow Italian, Andrea Caldarelli.
The second row was locked out by the two Audi R8 LMS supercars from Montaplast by Land-Motorsport. Jake Dennis and Christopher Mies in third place were marginally quicker than team-mates Sheldon and Kelvin van der Linde.
Fifth place also went to an Audi. Mike David Ortmann and Markus Winkelhock from BWT Mücke Motorsport finished ahead of Markus Pommer and Maximilian Götz (Mann-Filter Team HTP Motorsport) in the best-placed Mercedes-AMG GT3; Pommer and Götz are currently in second place overall in the championship standings.
The first race will start at 1:15 pm in Zandvoort. SPORT1’s live coverage begins at 1:00 pm.
