The 33-year-old will be sharing the cockpit this coming weekend with regular driver Patrick Assenheimer, who notched up his first points of the season in the most recent fixture at Zandvoort when he and Raffaele Marciello finished as runners-up. Engel competed in the Super Sports Car League already in 2014. A native of Munich, he is a Mercedes-AMG works driver who has also recently competed in Formula E. In 2015, he won the inaugural FIA GT World Cup in Macau.
"I'm obviously delighted to have another real pro as my co-driver," said Assenheimer. "I think the track really suits the Mercedes-AMG. Together with Maro, I'm aiming to build on the success of Zandvoort and to finish in the points again. But for me, it's not just about short-term success; I also think I can learn a lot from someone as experienced as Maro."
