Stolz and Sebastian Asch, his partner in the Zakspeed BKK Mobil Oil Racing team, started the race from 18th on the grid after a mediocre qualifying. When it began to rain after a few laps, many of the other drivers darted into the pits to change their slicks for wets. Stolz was one of those who stayed out, preferring to delay the tyre change until the official pit stop window. It was a move that paid off. After the driver changeover, Asch drove the car to sixth place on a set of wets. When a 30-second penalty was subsequently handed to the BMW that finished just ahead, Stolz and Asch moved up to fifth in the general classification. It was also enough for Stolz to claim his first Junior trophy of the campaign.
"We've made heavy work of it here all weekend," said the 22-year-old. "But at least we rounded the occasion off in a relatively satisfactory way. Basti drove a super stint in the rain on slicks. We then switched to wet tyres. Ultimately, that was probably not the fastest option, but it was certainly the safest."
Second best in the Junior stakes was Argentina's Ezequiel Perez Companc at the wheel of a Lamborghini entered by GRT Grasser Racing Team. He and co-driver Franck Perera also staged the pursuit of the day, coming through the field from 30th on the grid to finish sixth overall. The third-best Junior was Jeffrey Schmidt partnered by DTM star Jamie Green in the Audi R8 LMS of BWT Mücke Motorsport in eighth place.
P19 in the general and a second victory of the season in the Pirelli Trophy classification allowed Sven Barth and Claudia Hürtgen driving a Corvette C7 GT3-R prepared by RWT Racing to extend their lead in this particular category. However, the duo were far from satisfied with their result: "We are disappointed with the whole weekend - we had hoped for so much more. We had one or two problems and made small mistakes. When you do that in a field of this quality, you soon find yourself at the back of the grid. From there, it's difficult to make progress. But winning the Pirelli Trophy is a good way to round off the weekend."
