Maiden win: It took Team ISR only eight races to clinch their first victory in the ADAC GT Masters. Filip Salaquarda and Frank Stippler dominated proceedings on Sunday, first claiming pole position, then winning the race and also setting the fastest lap. "We've often been fast enough for a podium finish, but something always prevented us from actually getting there," said team boss Igor Salaquarda. "It feels incredibly good to have notched up this first victory." Team ISR is the first Czech outfit and the 37th in the history of the ADAC GT Masters to have recorded a race win.
Lightning strikes twice in the Eifel hills: For Frank Stippler, victory in Sunday's race was his second in the ADAC GT Masters. When the local favourite from nearby Bad Münstereifel celebrated his maiden win in the series in 2008, that was also at the Nürburgring when he shared the cockpit of a Porsche with Lance David Arnold. It was the first victory for a 911 in the Super Sports Car League. No other driver in the history of the series has left it so long between wins.
The Mamba bites: Mann-Filter Team HTP Motorsport had a particularly successful weekend in the Eifel. On Saturday, Indy Dontje and Maxi Buhk driving one of the team's Mercedes-AMG GT3's in its distinctive snake-yellow paintwork celebrated their first win of the season. For Dontje, it was also a maiden ADAC GT Masters victory. Also entitled to feel pleased with the race weekend were their team-mates Markus Pommer and Maximilian Götz whose P3 and P2 enabled them to reduce the deficit on the championship leaders to only one point. "No team has scored more points than us," said team boss Norbert Brückner. "In the drivers' championship, we're firmly back in the title fight, and in the team championship, we've opened up a gap at the top. We're looking forward to the upcoming races in which we intend to be well represented on the podium.
Top Three debut: Audi driver Mike David Ortmann made it onto the podium in the ADAC GT Masters for the first time with a P3 finish on Sunday. It was also enough to secure the 18-year-old BWT Mücke Motorsport driver his first ever win in the Pirelli Junior class: "I'm really happy that we made it onto the overall podium as well as winning the Junior classification. The race could hardly have gone any better."
First points 1: No fewer than nine contestants scored their first points of the season at the Nürburgring. They included Markus Winkelhock, Mike David Ortmann, Klaus Bachler, Adrien de Leener, Christopher Dreyspring, Giorgio Maggi, Ivan Lukashevich, Michele Beretta and Aaro Vainio. With the exception of Winkelhock and Bachler, they were also registering their first ever points in the Super Sports Car League.
First points 2: ADAC GT Masters newcomer Honda broke its points duck in the series on Saturday thanks to the sixth place secured by Christopher Dreyspring and Giorgio Maggi.
Speedy Swiss: Audi man Remo Lips enjoyed a first victory of the season, winning the Pirelli Trophy classification on Sunday in his Aust-R8 LMS. The Swiss amateur, who won the class in 2016 and 2017, has moved up to take the overall lead in this category for non-pros.
Replacement vehicle: The Audi R8 LMS currently being used by Aust Motorsport in the ADAC GT Masters was badly damaged in a collision during the 24 Hours of Spa on the weekend before the races at the Nürburgring. Consequently, Fréderic Vervisch and Nicolaj Rogivue were obliged to drive another vehicle. This was kindly loaned by Car Collection Motorsport and therefore did not sport the familiar black-and-red Aust livery.
