Ortmann and partner Markus Winkelhock lined up in second place on the grid in the Audi R8 LMS prepared by BWT Mücke Motorsport for the start of the eighth race of the Super Sports Car League. Winkelhock defended P2 until the driver change, and for a long time, Ortmann also held off pressure from the Mercedes-AMG of Markus Pommer and Maximilian Götz pushing hard to his rear. It was not until the penultimate lap that he had to let Pommer go through, but nevertheless, he still secured his best result ever in the ADAC GT Masters with P3 overall and victory in the Pirelli Junior classification.
"The race went really well, actually," said Ortmann. "Our straight-line speed was pretty strong too, but sadly, the tyres began to degrade towards the end, which cost me P2. Still, I’m mega happy with our first podium overall. I want to say a big thank you to the team and also to Markus for handing over the car in such a terrific position. Long may it continue, for sure!"
Ortmann’s team-mate, Ricardo Feller, came home just one second behind him to finish fourth overall and runner-up in the Junior classification. Third place went to Mercedes-AMG driver Luca Stolz.
Aided by Maximilian Hackländer, Swiss driver Remo Lips took his first victory of the year in the Pirelli Trophy classification at the wheel of Aust’s Audi R8 LMS. "I took over the car in seventh position but lost a couple of places, unfortunately. I’m a bit out of practice, as I’ve not been in a racing car for almost two months, but ultimately, I’m pleased to finish in the Top 15 in this field and to have won the Trophy class."
