18-year-old Hofer had previously qualified in pole position for the season opener of the Super Sports Car League, and in the race itself, he and team-mate Philip Ellis won through in the Audi R8 LMS prepared by Phoenix Racing after a close-fought scrap with the Lamborghini of Mirko Bortolotti and Andrea Caldarelli that lasted the entire race. They had a lead of 0.245 seconds on the two Italians who were subsequently disqualified. Hofer also won the Pirelli Junior classification for drivers under the age of 25.
"An overwhelming moment," said a jubilant Hofer. "Our quali result had already made our day, but the fact that we were able to convert the pole position into a victory is a powerful motivation for the rest of the season. I came under a lot of pressure from Mirko Bortolotti. The Lamborghini was extremely strong. He had a small advantage on some sections, but I concentrated on my own race and didn't look back. I kept varying my line to make it as hard as possible for him. Ultimately, that worked."
Another Audi driver, Sheldon van der Linde, finished as second-best Junior. The South African and his brother Kelvin were second overall in the R8 LMS of Montaplast by Land-Motorsport. Third-best Junior, BMW driver Mikkel Jensen, and ex-DTM champion Timo Scheider came home right behind them in the M6 GT3 of BMW Team Schnitzer, ultimately claiming P3 in the general classification.
Jan-Erik Slooten - aided in the Porsche 911 GT3 R by former FIA GT1 World Champion Lucas Luhr - also took a maiden victory in the ADAC GT Masters albeit in the Pirelli Trophy class. Iron Force by RING POLICE's Team Principal and driver was very satisfied with the result: "We never expected it after having to start from the very back because of a penalty in qualifying. I got away well, which was half the battle. Lucas did an extremely good job during his stint and gained a few places. We’re very satisfied."
