With his success, Sylvest certainly put a smile on the faces of everyone at Team Zakspeed BKK Mobil Oil Racing, who are contesting a home fixture this weekend in the Eifel. Sylvest shares the drive in the Mercedes-AMG with Kim-Luis Schramm and set best time of 1:26.131 minutes towards the middle of the 30-minute session. "I knew that the track would get slower as it got hotter, so I went out early," he said after taking his maiden pole in the ADAC GT Masters. "I'm very pleased. Everything went well on my lap. I had plenty of grip and no traffic. I never expected to finish on pole and will obviously do my utmost to hang on to P1 in the race." This was Zakspeed's tenth pole position overall in the ADAC GT Masters. Luca Stolz and Sebastian Asch in the team's sister car qualified in P3, showing that the outfit from Niederzissen near the Nürburgring are on excellent form.
Indy Dontje and Maximilian Buhk in another Mercedes-AMG from Mann-Filter Team HTP Motorsport were second with a deficit of just 0.035 seconds on best time, thus preventing a front-row lock-out by Zakspeed's two cars. The top-three finishers were all in Mercedes-AMGs. The two brothers, Kelvin and Sheldon van der Linde, were the best of the rest in the fastest Audi R8 LMS from Montaplast by Land-Motorsport, coming home in fourth place with a deficit of 0.075 seconds. Another Mercedes-AMG completed the Top Five with Markus Pommer and Maximilian Götz (both Mann-Filter Team HTP Motorsport). They are third in the standings and were the best-placed drivers from among the current crop of top championship contenders.
Championship leaders Marvin Kirchhöfer and Daniel Keilwitz, who could see themselves crowned 'half-time' champions this weekend, qualified seventh on the grid in their Callaway Competition Corvette C7 GT3-R. "My lap was actually very good but not quite good enough, as P1 is so hotly contested," said Kirchhöfer. "I'm not totally happy, since we'll now have to see what's possible in the race from seventh on the grid."
31 super sports cars were covered by less than one second at the end of qualifying.
