31-year-old Engelhart posted the best time of the 30-minute session in GRT Grasser Racing’s Hurácan GT3 with a time of 1.23.362 minutes. “The result is a big thank you to our mechanics for repairing the car, putting in a night shift from Friday through to Saturday after our crash in first practice,” said Engelhart, who shares the car with the Swiss Rolf Ineichen. “I got in two clear laps just at the right time when the tyres had the most grip. I posted a perfect lap. We’re in a great starting position for the race.“ Engelhart has already won three times in the ADAC GT Masters victories at Oschersleben, most recently in 2016 with current partner Ineichen.
Second place also went to a Lamborghini. Andrea Caldarelli of ORANGE1 by GRT Grasser was 0.110 seconds slower than Engelhart with a time of 1.23.472 minutes. The Italian shares the Huracán GT3 with fellow Italian Mirko Bortolotti. Third place went to the fastest drivers in R8 an Audi LMS, Jake Dennis & Oscar Tunjo, for Phoenix Racing. Dennis posted a lap time of 1.23.550 minutes.
Maximilian Götz and Markus Pommer from MANN-FILTER Team HTP improved to take fourth place in the final seconds of qualifying and were the best-placed drivers in a Mercedes AMG. Fellow Mercedes drivers Lance David Arnold & Christopher Friedrich completed the Top Five for Car Collection Motorsport.
Qualifying once again showed the competitive nature of the Super Sports Car League, as 26 vehicles finished within one second and 1.8 secs covered the complete field of 35 cars.
The second ADAC GT Masters race of this inaugural weekend starts at 1:08 pm.
