The Precote Herberth Motorsport driver beat off competition from his rivals to post a 1:36.180 in the 30-minute session, securing for himself and Porsche their first pole position of 2018. The last time a 911 was on pole was last year at the season opener in Oschersleben, again with Mathieu Jaminet at the wheel.
"Fantastic! I managed to get in a really good lap," said Jaminet, who shares the drive in the Porsche with Robert Renauer. "I had no traffic and didn't make any mistakes. I was even faster at the first split on my next hot lap but was down on the second and third sectors, so it was the maximum that was possible. I'm very pleased for the whole team. We have a very strong car here. But what matters is the race, because that's where the points are awarded."
Mercedes-AMG driver Maximilian Buhk (Mann-Filter Team HTP Motorsport) was only 0.008 seconds slower than Jaminet, managing to secure a very promising grid position in the second race for himself and local favourite Indy Dontje after their bad luck in Saturday's fixture.
The gaps between cars were again very small as regards the second row. Adrien de Leener and Klaus Bachler were third in the Porsche 911 GT3 R prepared by KÜS Team75 Bernhard with a deficit of 0.013 seconds while Nikolaj Rogivue and Frédéric Vervisch were just 0.065 secs off pole position in Aust's Audi R8 LMS.
Fifth place went to Patrick Assenheimer and Raffaele Marciello in the AutoArenA Motorsport Mercedes-AMG, followed by Jeffrey Schmidt and DTM star Jamie Green in the Audi R8 LMS from BWT Mücke Motorsport.
At the end of the session, just 0.242 seconds covered the Top Ten and 27 cars finished within just one second of one another.
