ADAC GT Masters·13.9.2018

Sachsenring notebook: News from the penultimate race weekend of the 2018 ADAC GT Masters

First-time winners 1: The surprise victory for EFP by TECE was the first ever in the ADAC GT Masters for the Augsburg-based outfit that was founded as late as the winter of 2017/18. They therefore become the second team to have won a race in its debut Super Sports Car League season after ISR, who were winners at the Nürburgring.

First-time winners 2: No fewer than three drivers won their first ADAC GT Masters race at the Sachsenring, namely Porsche works driver Timo Bernhard on Saturday and the Audi pairing of Elia Erhart and Pierre Kaffer on Sunday.

Competitive: The situation at the top of the 2018 ADAC GT Masters is finely balanced. In the twelve races so far, there have been eleven different winner combinations. With 22 different contestants now having lifted a winner's trophy, the record of 2015 has been broken. In that campaign, however, there were eight fixtures on the calendar and therefore two more races.

By the dozen: The picture is even more varied in terms of pole positions and fastest race laps. There has been a different pole-sitter in every qualifying session so far, and the twelve fastest race laps have also been set by twelve different drivers.

One-two-three: There was a podium lock-out for Audi in Sunday's race. The last time that a single manufacturer monopolised the Top Three was in 2015 at the Nürburgring. On that occasion too, the honours went to the Ingolstadt-based brand.

Front-runners: Fourth place on Sunday was enough to take the Porsche partnership of Robert Renauer and Mathieu Jaminet back to the top of the drivers' championship. It is the sixth time in 2018 that the lead has changed hands.

Charge through the field: Elia Erhart and Pierre Kaffer won on Sunday after starting from 26th on the grid.

Speedy qualifiers: The pole positions for Timo Bernhard on Saturday and Klaus Bachler on Sunday made KÜS Team75 Bernhard the second outfit this season to qualify in P1 on both days. For Bernhard, it was a maiden pole in the series, and for team-mate Bachler, his first since the Sachsenring in 2015.

Top upcoming talent: South Africa's Sheldon van der Linde claimed his first victory in the Pirelli Junior classification on Saturday - and then promptly repeated the feat on Sunday. This took the Audi driver into the lead for the first time this season in the category for contestants under the age of 25. He became the fifth driver to lead the class in 2018.

Top Three debut: Race winners Timo Bernhard, Elia Erhart and Pierre Kaffer appeared on the ADAC GT Masters podium for the first time, as did Zakspeed driver Kim-Luis Schramm who finished third on Saturday.

First points finish: Two drivers scored their first championship points in the ADAC GT Masters at the Sachsenring, namely series newcomer Kim-Luis Schramm on Saturday and guest entrant Alex Riberas on Sunday. Riberas had already competed in the Super Sports Car League on two occasions in 2014.
